Hi I need to weld the floor in my 1.6 laser and was wondering what grade and gauge I should use.

I use mild steel sheet, can't remember what the gauge is, it's not too thick that you can't shape it but thick enough to give strength. Don't use galvanised sheet steel, it's a pain and will spark and flash as the zinc coating burns off when you weld.

erm, and welding galvanised sheet is properly bad for your health.

20 gauge. It's about 0.9mm thick so it's shapeable but doesn't dent too easy, it's nice to weld (not as easy to blow holes in as the tin plate stuff) and it's versatile; if you've got scraps left over 20 gauge is good for repairing little holes in your chassis.

Don't touch galvanised with a welder unless you've got some grand plan to get cancer, in which case you might as well take up smoking, it's great.
