Bilstein Insert Replacement

Post by Sonic »

Hi Folks,

My 2.8i bilstein insert on the drivers side has given up the ghost. Few years ago it started as knocking vibration in left hand bends. Then started shaky steering under braking. Then after doing bushes, full on throw you off the road shaking in bends.
After changing EVERYTHING including the rack. It's def the shock.

Looked at a few options, including getting a 2nd hand strut to save bother or changing to 2L legs with cheaper shocks.

Talked with a Mk2 Escort Rally guy other night, who was adamant that Bilstein are a great damper and keep the struts and just put new bilstein inserts. He offered to do the refurb on em.

Anyone any experience with them? Peter Lloyd do them at 145 each, but of course have to drill and tap the bottom of the strut to accommodate the larger thread.
