What exhaust?

Post by 80s kid »

Hello.

I'm looking in the near future to put a louder exhaust on my capri but I don't want one of them horrible Chavy things you see the yoof with on tesco car park. I want a nice growl when idling and a roar when driving off.

What do you guys have on your capri's?

I've got a Sportex 2" on mine. It's got a nice throaty roar when revved. IMO the 3" tailpipes are too load on tickover and drone too much on the motorway. Also, I think it looks a lot more discreet than the 3" drainpipes.
Nice polished chrome tailpipes with rolled edges, too. 8-)
All the best,
Andrew.

I was looking at that one if the link works. That's a 2 inch one. I want a nice wow listen to that car sound not a look at that old bag of shite trying to be cool.

Yeah, they're alright, a few quid cheaper on Ebay though.
There's usually a few videos on Youtube of Capri exhaust sounds to give you some idea before you buy.

I found with the Sportex that they can need a bit of jiggling to fit, especially around the rear axle and leaf springs. Nothing that a fine adjustment tool won't fix.

Hi,
Here's a video of a Sportex 2" on a 2.0, although it's a twin exhaust.

Probably best to double check with the seller that it will fit the auto. Can't see a problem, but someone on here will know for sure. 8-)

Would I need to buy anything to make it suitable for the capri? Any other fittings or that?

Just read the bottom of this advert

Are you getting the full system with Sportex manifold? If not you'll need the adapter to fit to the standard manifold and downpipes. You will need new clamps and rubbers, probably, but the guy fitting the system will probably have those.
All the best,
Andrew.

Would buying a sportex manifold be better or just an adaptor? The shops not far from me I could go up tomoz while I'm out or phone them up.

There's an ATS by me they fit exhausts but I'm guessing their not cheap.

I would get the full system and manifold. Although undoing the manifold studs has it's own problems. Best soak them in WD40 the day before you take the car to have the system fitted.

For fitting, I would ask around. If there is a smaller independent exhaust/tyre place around your way they might do the job for less.

All the best,
Andrew.

I will take a look to see how much the manifold will cost me. May have to do some saving tho.

The place that do my tyres used to do exhausts but think they stopped but the owner has a 2.8 capri and I'm a regular there so I'm hoping he may do it. Don't know till you ask

i want a sportex exhaust with 4 branch manifold because they sound great for a budget system and you know you can trust the sportex name. ive seen that second vid you've posted up before i love the sound and each time i watch it it makes me want a sportex more. i know which shop your on about where your buying it from. its in lichfield. if you want you can bring the car to mine and ill help you and ill do it for free being as ive replaced loads of exhausts at college and done exhaust work to my own. ive also got a good selection of tools. you also live close so it would be ideal. :D
