Trying to figure out exactly which Ford Capri I have...

Post by Moxee2ndHandMarket »

Hello everyone,
I found a 1976 Ford Capri in a storage unit that has been closed up since 1985! What a find. I plan on putting it for sale, probably on eBay. But first I have to figure out some things. I'm hoping someone on this forum can help me. I've been able to decode the Vin number but I'm having a problem figure out what "Q3" under Poist Trim means. Any ideas? Also, how do I know if its a "Black Cat", "White Cat", "Crimson Cat" etc?
It does have the Chastain body kit added.
The Vin number is GAECSR21547, if that helps.
Thanks for any help you can offer! :)

Put up some pictures of the whole car/trim/engine etc, you'll have all the answers you need quickly

Hi,
You can decipher the build codes here:
http://www.fordopedia.org/body-plates/static
I've had a quick look and Q3 appears to mean steel grey trim for the Capri Ghia (USA).
Hope it helps.
All the best,
Andrew.

You might need to press ctrl + to be able to read the printed text.

Try to get hold of Don from Capri Club North America for more info.

Hi,
There's an 8 page review with photos and specifications of the Chastain S/3 in the book "High Performance Capris Gold Portfolio" by Brooklands books, it might help you identify what you have. It's a reprint of an article in Road Test magazine from March 1977.
I also would like to see your photos, please!
All the best,
Andrew.
