can i just ask............

Post by injection444 »

not wanting to split hairs but how can you question a mk4 escort and sierra's not being classics? these cars were being built before the last Capri was produced, i had this conversation with a guy who told me my XR4x4 wasn't a classic until i pointed out to him that if i shouldn't be there nor should he as his 280 was the same year as my car, 20yrs+ this year. Yes i know my car has plastic bumpers etc but people tend to overlook the fact of when it was actually made.

Sorry, just had to put my two pence worth in. :)

i actually agree with this which will pig off a lot of my branch. I loved my mk3 cabriolet - load of fun i guess the main difference is these guys prefer rear wheel drive!

It's more to do with when the car was first designed/launched. My brother's Corolla is only a couple of years newer than mine, but it's not really a classic.

I'm also on both forums, and don't like to get involved in politics or anything, but if they're going to start banning people just for being on this page I might not have much choice, given the choice between the two it would have to be this place. Nick and Elliot both seem very nice, and knowledgeable, but you guys have helped me loads.ImageJC|2 LITRE LASER AUTOMATIC|STRATOS SILVER

The simple answer is.......

Allthough they were made up till 86, they were still a 78 design.

this topic has come up recently on OSF, yes you can get an A plate sierra and yes it is older than say a D plate capri, but the capri is an older design, from when fords were fords!

I don't know what this is all about and frankly I don't care

Post by guitarswet »

however I don't like the tone of some of these postings. I have already asked one person to leave this forum permanently and if this type of posting continues then others will follow. I am watching certain people's postings carefully from now on.
If you have nothing technical to say then please go away. You should be ashamed of yourselves.

No offense intended Mark...

But if you dont know what it is all about then can't you just do what I do and ignore it? I started following the thread, but gave up because I don't really care.

All these people have a right to an opinion, and have paid so they can post on a public forum.

I only commented a few days ago how great this forum was as it was "self moderating", unlike the "other" forum. I personally think your choice of words in your post may offend a few members.

Post by Peter-S »

I've been comming here for six years now and this sort of nonsense comes along once in a while and has always been sorted out by the users. I know from using the forum that your moderating tends to be hands off rather than hands on so, as Rich says, if you do not really know what the issue is about how can you make a rational judgement. If you have effectively banned someone on the back of all this rubbish I'd suggest it's a bad call. I appreciate that it is your forum but as a paying subscriber I feel I'm justified in making a comment.

I didnt think it was a strictly technical only forum??

I thought it was a capri discussion forum, for members to talk about capris and capri related issues....even other capri sites. Maybe i've been mistaken all these years??

I didnt think banning people was the Laser page way.....thats for CP todo! lol

As Computer Professional may i just say...... I hate computers, they have made everyone nerds!

Please everyone take a step away from your computer and a step back to your capris and remember why we use the forum in the first place.

Keep the legend alive people!

its very silly behaviour and far too SERIOUS for my liking.

what happened to posts like
*'look what ****ty car i found on ebay today' etc...!

i'm bored of the serious posts with lots of big words. can we talk about something fun again please?

I was about to suggest just that, I for one love reading posts about quite random things. But at the end of the day it is Mark's forum so what he says goes.

We are all like minded individuals with a passion for Capris in common, I'm sure something can be worked outImage

imho has now come to this....as always there are people who wanna ask/post/view relative capri stuff...a large percentage of posters wanna "chew the fat" kinda thing...SO we gotta have a "chew the fat" page imho...(much like a lot of other respected forums have)....im gonna ask Mark to put a seperate "link" up for such a thing...is that what anyone else agrees with?i certainly do...it will attract more members hopefully who ideally dont wanna become part of the "cliquey regulars" and wanna simply fix his car.... without viewing mates ASKING IF ITS NOW SNOWING HIS PART OF THE LAND ETC ETC.......ANYONE ELSE WANNA "CHEW THE FAT"???

Or just leave it how it is...

Post by rich_jc »

Its worked for 10 years, why change it just because of a few long winded off topic posts?

There isn't enough members in here to be able to talk about capri's all the time, so people "chit chat" about all sorts of stuff, and that's how friendships and bonds are made.

I think Mark's reaction, though over the top, said in essence what we are all feeling. Lets not let the problems of CP spill over onto this page.

thats when it gets all silly i.m.h.o.

Post by partsguru280 »

for years we`ve had the one page forum where all sorts of questions have been asked, all sorts of silly posts and comments regarding everything from weather reports to glyns impending vascectomy have been noted.
its works for me personally and sort of bonds us all together in my view but more importantly covers everything we need to know about our beloved capri`s as well as creating the camoraderie that is so apparent on here and at shows.

this has been the norm for years chaps and is very succesfull and its been allowed.

WHY FIX IT IF IT AINT BROKE?

i for one love the randomness of the posts from toms old buildings to all ours holiday adventures and i can still get a technical question answered in no time at all while still having a laugh and a chat with my capri mates.

It's like points of view...

Post by rich_jc »

Loads of people writing in to the bbc about loads of stuff they watched and were offended by.

IF YOU DONT LIKE IT, DONT WATCH IT!

It's the same with posts. Read the title, if it aint your cup of tea, dont get involved. Ive made no comments about CP because im not involved, and really dont care.

Im not involved with CP, dont know what has gone on, and have no desire what so ever to find out what has gone on.

I also love the way this forum works, and has worked for many years but if people think an extra section would help then I am all for itImage

Well the website owner may want that...

Post by rich_jc »

But as paying members, surely we should have some say?

The forum works, change for change's sake is pointless.

If this site is going to change, then it needs a huge overhaul, new graphics, new layout, and that isn't going to happen.
