sourcing parts?

Post by Rdowe »

I've just bought a 1.6 LS as restoration project and was just wondering where is the best places to get parts from? In particular I need a new fuel sender, I have had a look on a few sites, like tickover and caprigear, with no luck. Any help would be appreciated.

The capri gear website is pre-historic in its content, and the owner (Martin) sadly does not see the benefit to keeping it up to date.

He is however an active forum member, so send him a PM through this site and I'm sure he can help.

Give Martin at Caprigear a ring, he has helped me out with parts and info a few times and knows his stuff.

Hi Rdowe, I've been buying parts for my Capri project all summer long, mostly as has already been said from Martin at Capri Gear - a great bloke with an encyclopaedic knowledge of the breed, and similarly Nial at Nial Diamond Capri Spares (find him on Google) who also is a really decent bloke who won't rip you off, and often has some hard-to-source parts.

I wouldn't have been able to put my car on the road this summer without the help and supply from these guys!

Try the Capri Club also. Great service, very efficient, and for some parts, prices are very good. And you will always get the exact right part for your car.

www.tickover.co.uk
www.rallydesign.co.uk
www.capriclub.co.uk

I have used all 3 of these and can be recommended

www.zyworld.com/caprisport/

have not used CapriSport, some specialist bits here. sells on ebay as oldphonebloke

And Caprigear on here.

Also try looking at the CapriPower forum, some regular sellers on there as well

Also, don't dismiss your local car shop. It's surprising just how many brand new parts you can still buy.

Martins website is old and he will be the first to admit that.

Whats wrong with picking the phone up though.

Ive called martin on nurmous occasions saying I need this and that and it comes in the post quickly and competitively priced. Ive also called him from the side of a dutch motorway with issues with my 2.8 which he has give me endless advice on.

Call him at home on a sunday. no trouble.

Get on the right side of this man and he really is a god send.

Be wary - CP pointed me in the direction of these guys last week and after I ordered a brand new 2.8 fuel sender and handed over my card details I was e-mailed back and told they don't have them any more and don't have a supplier. I asked about the second hand units and was told the same.

They still haven't updated their list, don't get me wrong it certainly is an impressive list but seems it may need bringing up to date a little ;)

And from the text it would appear that someone on the job isn't local.
