Who leaves bricks there!?!

Post by pauleo9 »

Absolutely gutted!! Was on my way home in my Mk3 Capri 2.0s and as i came round a sharp bend there was a big bag of bricks in the middle of the road. Pitch black at night and as most of you will know, the standard Capri lights are not great, neither are the brakes! Also, you dont expect bags of bricks in the middle of the road!,

Anyway, my question is, how much can i expect to pay to get it fixed and what work is involved? Ive tried to post a link to a picture on flickr, you'll also see the culprit and the full respray i had doe a few months ago :(

Hey pbar. I was hoping to avoid going through the insurance, just to keep the no-claims up. Not had any quote back yet on the work but will stick it on here in case anyone is interested.

For that area of the car, would it possible to get a replacement panel and get it sprayed up? Wondering if that would be easier/cheaper.

Thanks

I can understand that with the insurance, was just curious. I assume you don't have your no claims protected then? I would have thought that you could get a replacement panel yes, well worth asking any of the main Capri parts suppliers, Capri Club, Capri Gear, Tickover, etc. Or the parts section here. Have you thought about tapping it out yourself though, you may be able to make it look decent with a lot of patience. The more I stare at that pic, the less worse it seems. Though it's easy for me to say I know. Gradually knock/pull it out, twist it, shape it, sand it fill it, spray it....just a thought. If it doesn't work out you can look towards replacing it then. Wonder what a body shop might charge, out if interest?

HOLD ON

AS A MEMBER OF THE BUILDING TRADE (LETS GET THAT FACT CLEAR 1ST)

IT IS ILLEGAL TO LEAVE SUCH ITEMS IN THE ROAD AT NIGHT TIME (subject to permits and following H&S) SKIPS, PALLET OF BRICKS ETC.

So if this was the case I'd be back to where it happened see who is having building work etc done.

unless of course these were randomly left there but I'd check with your local council
If you were pissed walking in the dark and fell over them the council would be liable.

Ouch! Judgin by the looks of it, you'll be needing a new front valence, which can be purchased through the Capri club or tickover or Capri gear, then you have to take everything off the front of the car, have it sprayed up then refit all the trim etc etc. personally I'd be surprised if you took it to a garage and charged you than 4/500 quid including parts and spraying.
