Re: capri lsd,s
Are you intending using your own axle casing and just fitting an LSD in it? You'd be best just getting a complete axle from a 2.8 special but it ain't gonna be cheap. Second hand ones have been known to go for 500 notes.
The 2.8 LSD will go straight on but the gearing 3.09:1 I think will be too tall for your Laser ie acceleration will be much slower but it'll cruise at lower revs. You can get the crownwheel & pinion from your laser put on the LSD but it's a specialist job as the mesh has to be very accurately set or it'll whine like a banshee.
All halfshaft splines are the same btw but IIRC the 2.8/3.0 shafts are heavier duty ie thicker diameter.
Is it really worth it for the cost involved???

Re: capri lsd,s
It depends on the condition of the LSD unit.
Probably best left to a profesional to do the work and check the unit over.
When axles fail they lock up and skid the car.
Should be good when done though, lots of controlable back end action

Re: capri lsd,s
Getting an lsd all depends on how much power you have and how you drive the car.
Im very happy with the controlablilty of my capri with its power through a 1.6 non lsd axle.
an lsd will improve grip off the line and be a bit more controlable in a slide/hooning it around the corners.
An lsd is very much personal choice for a road car.

Re: capri lsd,s
What axles have lsd's that will fit a capri? iv got a similar problem on mine, iv got soo much space to the side and above the wheel now due to fitting huge arches not sure what axle would be wider and have an LSD in it? any suggestions? i keep seeing these "baby" axles with lsd's that have been shortened i need quite the opposite! and there silly money
Id rather push my ford, than drive a VW

Re: capri lsd,s
Considering the price of a second hand atlas 2.8 LSD these days or brand new LSD unit plus cost of fitting it would be a better long term investment to get a much stronger ford 8.8 axle from an explorer or mustang. Plenty of cheapish aftermarket cw&pinion sets and LSD units available from USA for those. If you've got plans for big power that is. Having an LSD in a capri is totally worth it though.
The big fast red one!

Re: capri lsd,s
yeah, atlas stuff is getting so expensive.
I was thinking of a volvo 240 axle with a diff.. aparently will handle anything you can throw at it too. Missed one on ebay recently for a couple of hundred.
dom you just need wider wheels!!!!
