3.0 Jet sizes

Post by Ghia15 »

As above what are the correct jet sizes for a standard 3.0 running a 38 degas.

Looking to get a new one tomorrow and want it set up ready to run.

As said before my carb is knackered and the car is hard to drive.

Thanks all.

145 mains, 50 idles, 70 pump jet as a starting point. That was the sizes before Ford started faffin about with emissions. The later carbs has 142 mains and 45 idles. Can't remember what the air correctors or emulsion tubes are but I'm sure someone on here will know. 8-)

As Peter said, emulsion tues = F50's, Air Correctors = 185's. Float/needle valve = 2.50. make sure the float height is correct too!

Cool, Thanks guys.

When I order it I will request those to be fitted and the float height set.

Reallu hope this sorts out the car, might need a tune for the mixture and emissions and the timing but am confident it will sort out the problems.

A standard Essex with a dgas is one of the easiest to set up. Just make sure all the basics are ok 1st though if you haven't already done so, timing, valve clearances, points if you still have 'em, plugs gaps etc etc. Initial settings for mixture screws are as follows - screw both fully in clockwise until they stop (do not force them tight) then unscrew 3 turns each as a starting point. When adjusting the idle mixture you must turn both screws by the same amount in the same direction. You should be able to get it running smooth just by ear then final adjustment with a gas analiser if needed. You shouldn't have probs.
Good luck
