Hi guys,
I'm new to the forum and have had my first Mk3 2.8i Capri for around 2 months now.
I'm sure i'll be posting random questions on here over the next year so any help anyone can offer will be appreciated (i'll try my best to return the favours as my own knowledge improves)
I cannot seem to get the gear knob off. It should have a thread inside as i have the replacement to swap it with.
I've tried pretty hard to unscrew it (lefty loosie) and it won't budge.
So... Any ideas or thoughts?
Cheers guys,
Mr Bob

Can only suggest you try pulling it firmly up as you unscrew.

Re: Mk 3 Gear knob removal
I'm thinking that at some point in the car's life, someone has screwed on the gear knob but put glue on the threads to make it extremely difficult to remove, so they could have perhaps used one of those gearstick/handbrake (Autolok) devices a bit more effectively ? I guess you'll just have to persevere with it mate, as it should normally unscrew very easily ... sorry I can't actually be of any help.
And yep, I do know that those old handbrake/gearstick locks were pretty poor, I binned mine many years ago

You are a bunch of dramatical men haha.
Thank you for all the comments. I'm gonna try the yank and screw approach with my knob in my hand (i had to say that haha). If that doesn't work, i might cut it off bit by bit and then just clean the thread up.
I could always pull the centre console apart and expose the arm, then could get some mole grips around it and give it a good seeing to!
Will keep you all posted...
Thanks,
Mr Bob

Re: Mk 3 Gear knob removal
I have encountered a few Capris with glued-on knobs in the past. Had to saw one off once. Annoying!
