what sierra for EFI conversion
if you wanna nick the bits off a sierra for converting a pinto to EFI what model of sierra do you need bits from? all i can find is the DOHC engine and im guessing the injection bits for that engine wont fit a pinto? also what bits exactly do you need? im looking to get my hands on the bits ASAP

Re: what sierra for EFI conversion
Sierra or Granada with a 2.0 Pinto EFI. Not sure of the years to be honest but here's a top tip... When adding a car for sale on ebay, it usually uses the Reg Number to populate all the details about the car. You want to avoid ones with Engine Size = 1998cc as thats the Twincam engine and you want the 1993cc Pinto engine. You'll probably find loads of twin cams and no many pintos on your search unfortunately.

you need 1985 (some are carb be warned) to 1989 (some are dohc) they are the same dates for both sierra's and granada's. i found that wait for the right one with the right mialage to come up, try avoiding anything above 100 tho as u know, and service history is a bonus! gas conversions are a big no no. same for imports as some have wered and wonderful lambda's etc. good luck, patience is the thing, wait for the right one to come up, also try and find one road going so you can drive it for a bit, get to know the efi before you remove the stuff!
here is 1 for example, tho its a sierra, but its an auto whitch is a good thing! i would question about mialage tho. but there will be more pinto efis come up
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1988-FORD-SIERRA- ... 240%3A1318
also 1 being broken
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Ford-Sierra-2-0l- ... 240%3A1318
some good searches to do on ebay are "pinto efi" and "pinto injection"

yes, trust me on this. you will have no way of knowing if the components are working before had, a lot of people will warn u about doing it in parts, most use a donor car that they know is running spot on. but this is completly up to you. theres plenty of help, just dont jump into somthing your not prepared for. as i found, ive made the mistakes along with other people, so future peeps doing these conversions dont need to.mcramsay wrote:i was looking more to just get the bits i need from a sierra rather than buy a whole car is that gona be harder?

Stefan is right. A bitsa setup is so hard to get right. He ended up having to jiggle, fiddle and replace loads on his set-up. Buy a runner.Stefan Capri wrote:yes, trust me on this. you will have no way of knowing if the components are working before had, a lot of people will warn u about doing it in parts, most use a donor car that they know is running spot on. but this is completly up to you. theres plenty of help, just dont jump into somthing your not prepared for. as i found, ive made the mistakes along with other people, so future peeps doing these conversions dont need to.mcramsay wrote:i was looking more to just get the bits i need from a sierra rather than buy a whole car is that gona be harder?

Re: what sierra for EFI conversion
Best bet is a early mk3 granny as the loom is seperate from the rest of the main loom.
If you are struggling i have loads of 20L EFI pinto bits.

Later Sierras and Grannies are easy to harvest too!
Just chase the loom behind the dash and un plug the two multi-plugs! In a lot of ways the later ones are easier.

Re: what sierra for EFI conversion
You'll need the head too as the inlet ports are a different shape, can't fit an injection manifold directly to normal head as the injectors need the egg shaped ports.
I used a running (just) granny for my conversion so I knew I had everything (I used the whole engine). Parts are on ebay but try and get a job lot or it'll get expensive.
Don't forget a 2.8i tank or be prepared to have yours converted to take a high pressure pump.
Conversion is great, although I'd probably stick a Zetec in now if I did it again.
