Hi guys
I have a "V" reg Mk3 with a 2.1Ltr stage 2 engine and fitted with Kent cam and a vernier cam sprocket. The problem is that if I time the engine at @ 6 or 8 degrees BTDC the engine has a real bad flat spot and it tends to run on when turning off the ignition, if I time the engine by ear IE: getting rid of the flat spot, the timing is set at @ 20 degrees BTDC. Could this be caused by the Vernier gear slipping and if so how do I go about setting it back to the right setting.
Any replies gratefully received.
Regards
Ron.

timing
The only real way to set these up is to get your car on a rolling road run by someone who knows their stuff. The vernier can then be adjusted to give maximum effect. Once it is set up I would paint some marks on it and check it doesn't slip - although I'd be surprised if it does.
