uprating suspension
uprating suspension
i own a 1984 2.0 laser...i would like to uprate the suspension all round to 2.8 spec...what are the best products on the market and how easy to achieve would the uprating be?...any help would be greatfully accepted...
Try these
contact LEDA they do reconned struts (with or without adjustment), Rear shocks to suit and they also do single leafs which they can decamber as well. you can get a full kit from around £750.
If you want them to fit and set up they take an extra £180
You may also like to try the rallye design website where you will be able to get quite a few bits and bobs cos remember that Escort bilstein kit should fit as well....

For the full 2.8i spec....
Like Andrew says, buy 2.8i front struts from Leda. Their original spec recon ones are really good value.
Get your single leaf rear springs from Ledas too, much cheaper than buying ones from Ford.
Get new front coils from Burton Power, they are only about £11 each.
Burtons also sell (or did last year) the original spec Bilstein rear dampers for the 2.8i, and weren't too pricey as I remmember.
Finally, fit new bushing all round and definitely use Superflex or Polyflex ones. If you are going to bother to uprate everything to new 2.8i bits then you will be doing yourself a disservice if you don't have some decent bushes too. The Capri Club is the best place to get poly bushes from, they seem to be a bit cheaper than anyone elses prices.
Do all the fitting yourself - the only special tools you need are spring compressors and a ball joint splitter. It's not really difficult, it just takes a bit of time and a great deal of swearing. Don't forget a set of U-bolts for the rear leaves too, as they will definitely shear off when you undo the old ones.
