Oil pressure guage

Post by ciaranf »

I while changing the pedal box and fitting a speedo cable for the conversion of my 2.0 laser to manual I had to remove the oil pressure gauge hose from the engine block ( first nut ). I assume that the pressure guage worked by air but when I refitted the hose it came loose at back of the instument cluster and oil started dripping out. So should the hose be filled with air or oil?

the hot oil circulating in the engine is fed to the gauge.

Believe it or not the oil pressure gauge has a feed straight from the oil in yoour engine. It is vital that you make sure this is fitted properly without leaks otherwise you run the risk of having red hot oil squirting from your dashboard !
