Door Locks

Post by Craig »

Hello All,

I have the task of replacing 2 doors on a 82 capri with those from an 87. I thought it would have been quite easy to change the locks over but then I noticed that the locks moved from the handle onto the door itself.

Before I spend time dismantling the doors and locks does anyone know if you can move the actual lock barrel over from the 82 doors and swap it behind the key hole on the 87 doors ???

Cheers,

Craig

Why not just use all the locking mechanism and more elegant combined lock/handle units from the 82 car, and block up the holes where the seperate lock barrels were?

If you're going to be painting the doors that won't be a prob will it?

I don't know, but I doubt you can switch the barrels over from the handle type to the seperate mounting used on the later cars, because they look like they are a different type.

As we are talking door locks, I need to replace the drivers door lock (seems to have worn out) I've been told that a MK4 escort lock will fit, the round key type, is this correct? has any one done it?

The old door locks are easier to break into, so trust me and use the new locks. But they do look much better.

As for the mk4 escort locks they should fit but Id make sure to get them off an non-central locking escort to be safe.
