I've got a 2.8i special that has a road speed related whine coming from the back axle(lsd axle).
Its not loud and at the last MOT I was told the nearside wheel bearing has a little play in it.
Could it be the wheel bearing or does the slippy diff have to come apart?
How difficult is this?
Lsd noisy
wheel bearing
if the bearing had play in it, then it sounds like it's definitely that.
I think Mark has a guide on how to change rear wheel bearings in his servicing section.
It's not that difficult, you just need a garage or engineeing shop to press the new bearing onto the halfshaft for you.

May ne hard to remove + Query on log in accont
I just had both bearings replaced, and they were very hard to remove! One had to be destroyed with Oxy-acetaline (Sp)
One was not really necessary, but the removal of the noise was wonderful
Michael
PS How do you create a log in account? Is it worth doing? Clcking "create account takes me back to the Forom home page. Can't make sense of it!
