I asked her to pass me the square (generic pic) .....I shoulda known better and just called it a fucking triangle . So "why is it called a square when its obviously a triangle? " .

I thought a square was actually just an equilateral rectangle?

It`s referred to as a `set square` (at least in UK) presumably as it enables one to check the corners of a square, or squared piece, are actually 90`: by having a triangle increases it`s versatility as you can also check 45` (or even 60` & 90`). But primarily it`s to check `squareness`,
