Just that when talking classic fords ,when it comes to wheels I find myself having to describe the wheel rather than being able to say it has "#&£%π" wheels. Is there a proper name that would leave the correctly informed in no doubt which wheel was being discussed ? :)

Bob? Alan? Will? Don't know, really...

Are ones in the top photo usually known as Ghia alloys?
I've heard those steel wheels called "dartboard" style.

The steels were originally called "Sports Wheels". Back in the 70's I suppose they looked more sporty than a steel with a hubcap.

Yeah ,I guess there are two ways to answer the question, thanks to all you comedians :P , I was expecting you lot to pipe up ( wouldn't have missed the opportunity myself) :xd: , but I would like to know if there was a factory name/id for the wheels . Helps if your buying /selling/ watching on internet buy sell sites . :)

Hamish already got a few replies on fb mate. Here's what folk have said so far...

"Not aware of an official name for the Ghia/S alloys, but the steel sports wheels where nicknamed "tinilites" in the 80's"

"The Ghia alloys were designed for Ghia models across the Ford range so generically named it, and then were for other models like the S. Whether they were designed by Ghia studios is another matter. The steelies are usually just Sports wheels as i believe that's what the Accessories brochure named them"

"Are the alloys known as Ronals? (Manufacturer's name?)
The steel wheels are also known as Dartboard"

And there you were, taking the Mickey out of me for suggesting that !

I'm sure the Ronals are different wheels, as fitted to the early S models.

Just got bit more info on those Ghia wheels.
They get a mention in Steve Saxtys book. They were indeed designed by Ghia Studios for a concept car but were then used on Ghia models across the Ford range and later on the mk2/early mk3 'S' models. So prob calling them "Ghia Alloys" is prob right Hamish

Above info supplied by Kris Saines :)

Thanks Nick , much appreciated . Yonks ago I fitted 7"rims to some "tinilites" for my mk2 escort ( still under the w/shop bench ), and I am tempted to polish up a set of ghia wheels ( off my Capri ) but I like to get another set 1st so I can still have an unmolested set.......they aint easy to find at a reasonable price, fair nuff I spose coz I aint giving mine away either :) .

Yep those Ghia wheels are very rare to find Hamish. Reckon they would look the bollocks all polished up mate. But yep can see why you would not want to do this to your totally unmolested set.

By the way another mate on fb got on to me and said the steel 'tinilites' used to also be known as "Roadsports".

"The steels were called ‘Roadsports’
I believe the name came after the replacement of the Rostyle original"
