A mess but luckily it can be saved

Although driving around on that 2009 tyre isn't the best idea

The video says judging by the way some of the wires were fused together it was electrical but I would have thought that the heat would make them do that anyway

That was a lucky escape but is a straightforward rebuild. I did a MK3 2.0 Sport some years ago that had more damage than that and it wasn't a massive job.

I've been told by more than one fitter, tyres have a 5 year shelf life and that once a tyre is fitted it should be changed after 5 years regardless of tread! So you could buy a tyre(s) and store them out of sunlight for 5 years then run them for 5 years, but tbh it's best to buy when needed and use straight away.

I have a stash of Michelin 16" motorbike tires that are now at least 15 years old . I bought them coz some collectable Ducati's need factory fitment tires to be " correct ". I screwed a grand out of one guy for a pair for a resto .

Getting back to the Minder Capri, perhaps when it has been painted they will also paint the sills and in satin black as they were originally and fit the correct S stripes.

I always thought the restoration emulated the Capri as it appeared in the series (or rather the opening titles as various Capri's were used in the show), is that not right Paul?

Minder started in October 1979 so the car would have have only been a couple of years old when the titles were filmed. I doubt it would have deviated from original in that time.

Most of the time in the shows to follow he was driving a MK1 painted white with black roof to look like the original It was also fitted with the SLE 71R reg plate.

The use of false or repetitive plates used in TV shows of this time period, including this one, is actually explained in some detail in this excellent book -
