With Warley, Gaydon and Silverstone behind us there are just two major Capri-centric events left now this year. So let's get going and make plans! This thread is about the first one at Dunton on Sept 1st with the Brooklands event a week later on the 8th. Both events are different but complementary and so impossible to call which is better - I'm flying over for both and you should go too.
The Dunton event is being organized by Frankie's Hospice at Ford's R&D location in Essex where the Capri was born. It's the first, and for many, the only chance to get into the location. Here's the highlights:
- The final time Capris will be parked on the hallowed test track used for R&D.
- Former Ford personnel who worked on the vehicles talk to us, how they got to the street, behind the scenes, the politics, the highs, the lows
- The professional organization of a classic car show by people who have been coordinating these for a decade, drawing crowds of 5000 people. This year, they expect it to be bigger and may see 8000 turn up.
- A unique gathering of special Capris (details TBA) with hundreds of Capris in attendance plus the RSOC and XROC so you can enjoy, poke fun or, more maturely, look at other cars of the era around the Capri
- I'll be there with my books, giving talks and some special freebies (because everyone likes free stuff)
- Ford's Heritage fleet in attendance including their Capris and other special cars.
If you're not going to one or the other event then shame on you! I'm not coming back for the Capri's 100.
