Good job I checked
This would have been an instant fail for this weekend's MOT - always worth checking a few basics.

Re: Good job I checked
Always worth a check over before an MoT, I'd be embarrassed if I got a failure from something silly like lights, wipers etc. I did go for a test and have a tail lamp blow between checking the night before, and 10am when the tester noticed it. Fortunately I had a spare and whipped it in there and then.

Re: Good job I checked
My tester would most likely tell me to get that done, but let me off, or put an advisory. And I would of course do as he says. It is good having an understanding like that. Much better to spot it yourself and do it beforehand though obviously.

At least it's an easy fix!
Andrew helpfully posted this link for me the other day and was only a ten minute job

There is a knack to getting those rings on though! One of those jobs that you can fiddle with for ages, or just do in seconds.

Re: Good job I checked
The first one took ages as I did the bottom ring first, and the top ring was being a bitch.
Second one I put the top ring on the rubber and pushed it down onto the joint and went on straight away! Live and learn haha

Reminds me of that old joke:
Paddy says "my mate came off his motorbike"
Murphy says "shit"
Paddy replies "yeah.. he has lost an arm, has brain damage and is blind in one eye"
Murphy "well no wonder him came off."

I'm the one who leaves all those shoes in the carriageway.

Re: Good job I checked
As the tie rod end is a lot cheaper and easier to change than the bottom balljoint, it's just as well to replace the whole thing.
Good luck with the MOT Peter.
Andrew.
