1000 mile laser

Post by D366Y »

If the description is to be believed this car has sat since 1986 in the same barn and has only 1006 miles on the clock...
Very impressive if so and I think not a bad price for a car with that kind of history, but the state of the thing!

I'm sure that was for sale last year.
What looks like missing paint above the clutch and brake pedal rubbers, suggest many more miles :?

I'm also sceptical to be honest! Considering the state of the front valence alone something must have happened at some stage to make it that bad!

If the mileage is genuine, and like most of us I have my doubts, in this case I don't see the low mileage as a selling point. The overall condition of the car makes the benefit of low mileage irrelevant. Whether this car has 1000 miles or 101,000 the whole car is still going to need restoring and overhauling anyway.

My 186,000 mile Laser is cleaner than that under the bonnet. That rust at the top of the rear wing could be nasty if it's gone to holes, added to £700 for a front panel from Express panels. Plus for most of us there's the aggro of getting it transported from Ireland.

IMHO its worth £2,000 max.

Yes check the blokes feedback as the last person who bid on the car says it’s more like a million miles .

Good call, Jason. The person you mention bid £5300 for it.... :doh: But look at how deceptive the photos are on the original listing. They don't show the O/S/R wheel arch at all, or much of the valance and they are the worst bits.

I wonder what the true history of the car is . As it does look like it’s been around the clock .

and yet, pristine steering wheel, straight looking road wheels, good complete white paint on the switch gear, no oil leaks on the diff ....
Rust could still be a major issue though. Be interesting to see it in the flesh because the photos are pretty crappy.

Always wary of ebay listings that start with the words "Here we have", but;
I think this is genuine low mileage, if it's really last taxed in 1986 that means 1 year of use, and that adds up with the clean underside and the very straight looking bonnet edge and front wing corners.

What's has let it down is being sat in either a damp or open barn for 35 years, lots of surface rust, and lord knows what has found its way into the engine in those years.
It's still a state, but I think the low mileage might just be genuine.
