It makes you cringe when you think of all the valuable parts on that just crushed and thrown away. Still, it's the way 98% of Capris have gone and why ours that are left are getting rare and conversely more valuable.

Shame about the Capri but you gotta love the guy operating the machine with his fag hanging out the corner of his mouth!

That is exactly why I started my business in 1993, even then I could see the vast amount of perfectly good parts being destroyed in this way.

This bloke could probably repair that Capri.

He's a talented man but whether what he does is right or wrong I'll leave for others to debate.

Those times were far better than the nanny state in which we are coping with today. Back then you had common sense and a feeling of self preservation- Now we have " health and safety" which is there to try to protect the most stupid, idiotic and basically thick and all it really does is to fuck up all of the people that can realise when something is wrong, dangerous or simply stupid.
You can put in place all kinds of rules and regulations but as soon as you include the human element then you also introduce the weak link.

It is now official...the term "common sense" is not allowed to be used anymore.

Be aware...this is not a joke. The above was formally communicated to me on a course at work recently which involved (of course) some health and safety aspects. I do understand where they are coming from as it is not a "quantifiable" factor. But really....?

Slightly off at a tangent from the thread topic but these videos just show how far we have come. I love watching these at it shows how far we have come (in the wrong direction) is such a short space of time. Probably the clearest sign of H&S going mad is that when there is a road accident, how much time it takes for the road to become operational again.

These will take you back to a bygone era, those old enough. Look at how the traffic still moves around the recovery and lack of hi-viz / safety that we all perceive them to take today, yet guys were just muscling in getting the job done.

The sad thing is that I am nearly 50 and this is in my memory of how they used to recover these.

There are a series of these Surrey Breakdown footages. I can't find it now - but one was taking a Manta out of the ditch.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=djkvhyQQtMc

So here is another aspect of a time gone by. This follows the Manchester M/way police on a daily effort in the winter of 1979. Just shows a different aspect. I love watching all of these just to show an era that looks years away from now yet is only 30/40 years back. But they are of some length in footage.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qvw9DNQWymo&t=174s

If you want to cut through to some interesting highlights - scroll along to 15:20 for the police racing to a accident on one of the Manchester motorways.

If you moan at middle lane morons today, you'll be pleased to know that it is not and never was a new phenomenon, even though we think the volume of traffic on the roads today is heavier and creates more of this madness.

Scroll along to 18:00 and watch the age old issue that was just as rife in the 1970s as it is today unveil itself.

Watch this footage of the police complaining about a Cortina and Capri (for god's sake - what are they doing) sat in the middle lane at slow speed not overtaking anything.

Another clip is at 24:00 where they are trying to split 2 cars apart. When was the last time you saw a police vehicle get involved in pulling them apart with their cop car ?

Some things don't change. But the speed in which they recover incidents today vs past has changed.

Sorry to go off topic - but these just show a different way of life.

Edit:- I just saw a clip that will make you smile. I haven't seen these for a while.

Scroll along to 39:30 on that Manchester police video and see the Ambulance whack the plod Granada as the ambulance nearly loses it on the ice. It's all real live time footage shown on these. Fantastic stuff!
