Do you usually change yours this time of year??

Looking from the front of the car, where abouts is the drain plug located and can you get to it wihout jacking the car up??
Hi Andy,
No, I usually leave the oil change until after the winter, but I felt like a change this year. I personally feel that it doesn't make any real difference when it's done, as long as it's done.

The filler plug is on the right hand side as you look from the front. The sump plug is easy to reach without jacking the car up. The filter can be reached from behind the offside wheel, although you might find it easier to raise the car a little to get to it easier.

Andrew.

No problem. I forgot to ask if your filter is on a hanger, I assumed so? The Ford workshop manual has a diagram that shows the filter screwed directly to the oil cooler, so I would hazard a guess that some cars didn't have them fitted.

You can get to the filter from the front of the car if you jack the car up, but with access from the position shown you may not have to. It depends on which tool you use, I suppose.

:D
I can see the bottom half of the filter from behind the o s f wheel. My mate has a tool to get it off but not sure which one though.
So looking at your arrow, the sump plug is basically on the r/h side of the sump under the dipstick tube??

We asked about it, but they only give grants to properties with a south facing roof in order to get the maximum return. We don't see as much sun here as you get in the south east. Now, if only there was a way to generate electricity from rainfall we'd be on to a winner! :)

Andrew.
Yes very true with the rain , yes with the electric you sell back to the company what you don’t use I can’t remember the cost , also we would have had them on the front what would have stuck out .

I can only guess things will get cheaper also the new houses they are building up the road don’t have any gas going to the houses it’s all electric.

Of those, I would use the nylon one. I tend to use a copper one on mine though. I've also got a magnetic sump plug. I'm not sure if it works with regards to attracting metal particles in the oil. However, it does come in handy when draining the oil, because if you accidentally let go of it when unscrewing it, it doesn't fall into the container of used oil but it sticks to the sump. :D

Thanks for the link, I have bookmarked it for future reference.

I never used to, but the last few times I have run the engine first as I was led to believe the oil drained better when warm....Old wives tale :?

You change yours when cold ??

I have heard that the oil is thinner when warm, and therefore will drain easier. The question I ask is, does the oil not drain when it's cold? I don't think so. I let it drain, leave it for a bit while I go off and do something else (cup of tea and lunch, usually) and then return to it. As a precaution, I leave myself a note on the steering wheel that says "Do not start", just in case I forget what I was doing when I return from lunch!
