One thing many people may not realise is that your bank may offer breakdown cover. Mine does, for £12 a month, and it's personal cover so doesn't matter what car you are in. Bizarrely, I think it includes other things too such as losing your mobile phone.

If you have a premium account or razz like that I think it's quite common - had a mate break down once and luckily someone in the car had it so used it, pretty handy and for £144 quid a year is cheaper than most traditional breakdown cover!

It doesn't surprise me that insurance companies do all they can to wiggle out of paying when you need them to. Insurance is supposed to give you total peace of mind, it's anything but that.The system needs a complete overhaul.

Exactly. I didn't think I'd have to declare them as modifications on the grounds that they are not giving a huge increase in performance and, for example, replacing a VV with a 34ICH is pretty much an equivalent carb. It's not like it has a new engine or something in it. However, having done a bit of research online and speaking to them on the phone, they said anything that wasn't original fit needed to be declared.

Unfortunately, as you say, insurers are notorious for avoiding paying out. If someone, say, put an upgraded interior in, didn't declare it, then went into a ditch, they'd struggle to show that the interior caused them to have the accident, but would cause difficulty in getting the payout no doubt.

The breakdown cover is more than I'm paying for insurance on both cars!
That renewal price is for personal cover, so I'm covered whatever I'm driving or am a passenger in. That's with home start, relay and stay mobile.

Just had my renewal for the Capri from Start Rescue £47.49!

Not had to use them yet so not sure what the service is like as/when required.

Well, I finally got around to doing the dance with the nice man from the AA.
He did say that as I've only been with them for 3 consecutive years, I wouldn't be entitled to the same sort of loyalty discount that long-term members would get. However, a 16.66% discount was definitely worth five minutes of my time.
