I'd forgotten about The Works! They have some real bargains in there actually.

I can't see this book appearing in The Works any time soon.
It's not that kind of product.

Anyone on the fence should just get it as Christmas gift, you won't be disappointed.
The level of detail, research, and access that the author has been given to Ford, and the contributions from the senior management and engineering people involved in the cars "back then" puts this book significantly ahead of anything currently available.
I mean FFS you've got forewords from Rod Mansfield and Bob Lutz!

Thanks Jason.
First I had to wait longer than most for the dash mat, now I've got to wait for the Capri Bible. I see a theme developing here.... :crying:

Talking about stagecoaches, I can feel a history lesson coming along......
The world's oldest monument dedicated to the memory of the victims of a drink driving accident is right here in Wales. The pillar was erected in 1841 to warn coach drivers of the peril of being drunk in charge, and also to commemorate a mail coach accident that occurred on 19th December 1833 caused by a drunken coach driver. It is located in a place called Halfway in the Brecon Beacons.

ImageMail Coach Pillar at Halfway, Brecon Beacons. by Andrew 2.8i, on Flickr

The inscription reads:
"This pillar is called Mail Coach Pillar and erected as a caution to mail coach drivers to keep from intoxication and in memory of the Gloucester & Carmarthen mail coach which was driven by Edward Jenkins on the 19 day of December in the year 1833 who was intoxicated at the time & drove the mail on the wrong side of the road and going at a full speed or gallop met a cart & permitted the leader to turn short round to the right hand & went down over the precipice 12 feet where at the bottom near the river it came against an ash tree when the coach was dashed into several pieces. Colonel Gwynn of Glanbrian Park, Daniel Jones Esq. of Penybont and a person of the name of Edwards were outside & David Lloyd Harries Esq of Llandovery solicitor and a lad of the name of Kernick were inside passengers by the mail at the time and John Compton guard."

The coach driver, Edward Jenkins, appeared before a magistrate in Llandovery and was fined £5 plus costs.

Here endeth the lesson!..... :sleepy: :sleepy: :sleepy:

Christ has the book sold out , I thought it would as the Escort , Sierra, Cortina & Focus Guys and ladies would love the book .
As reading the book ( sorry andrew ) is more like the history of the cars we love with some information that is how did they get to build the Capri we love .

Andrew love the memorial I think it’s so nice to have something like that also they have not knock it down to build a motorway or put bloody houses up .

I hope you get your book soon as I have loads to ask ..... also nick it’s great book your love it .

Since this thread title is a little old - can I suggest that there's a new thread started - called "Discuss: The Cars You Always Promised Yourself Book"

Maybe the admins can set it up so it's easily found and I'll do my best to engage on it there?

Using a thread title that's old may mislead people?!

Good idea Steve. You could start the thread, the admins will make it a sticky topic if they deem it necessary.
Although the thread originator can easily amend the title of a thread, as is often the case on this forum, the subject matter contained within tends to go awry a little. :)
