Paint spraying

Post by Jasonmarie »

So where do I start , after young nick was posting and chatting about his boot area and that he used a brush I was really impressed of the finish . So on my holiday I come across a small model air sprayer what was only £25 .
Now I do struggle when I paint the clear coat on brass clocks to get the right results also I always think when I paint bits for the Capri the finish could be better .
So I have this small paint sprayer with thinners and some paint to have a play with over the winter .
So any tips that some of you may have will help as I have never used one .

Hi Jason,
I don't know anything about spraying, so I'm definitely the right person to offer advice on this! I would suggest that the model airbrush might be better suited to very small areas of paint correction and should be perfect for your clocks. To get an even paint finish over a larger area on the car, Neil got fantastic results with one of these:

I am planning to buy one myself, but it's on a long list of things that I haven't got around to doing yet.....

Yes I must have missed that and the spray paint machine looks really good and a good price for doing big jobs .
I am with you on spraying as it’s all in the preparation first to get the results , I do get confused with what sand paper I should be using as well .
Anyway I will post up on here of not what to do I guess .

Hi Jason,

I think a lot of people use something like P400 grade paper, but I always use a really fine grade wet and dry paper, usually P2500. That seems to work really well for preparing the surfaces ready for paint, and also sanding the topcoat before applying the clearcoat.
:goodluck:
