Blast from the past.
Was going through some old photos & came across these pictures of a friend's old Capri.
It's a 1984 2.8i which had a smoothed Cartel body kit fitted & was also turbocharged. Pictures were taken in 1987. He bought the car as you see it, was a stunner at the time. Kits were really popular then. Don't think many would fit one today (the turbo would be nice though) but I thought I'd share the pics.
Wonder if it's still around.

Looking at it through my 18 year old eyes, she's stunning........ looking at it through my 47 year old eyes
I'm guilty as charged for bonding a fibreglass kit to my first Capri 30 years ago.......loved them back then.
I look back and think 'what the f*ck was that all about?'
Great nostalgic pic though

Re: Blast from the past.
Kitting cars was all the rage back then, not my cuppa but that one looks well done. Round here there were loads that had the treatment but probably even more Escort cabriolets - usually white with white roof. All the essex girls loved em! Mind you anything got kitted, Chevettes, Cortinas, Cavaliers etc.
I notice another rarity in the background of the picture - a 2-door Fiat Mirafiori. My sister had a 1600 twin-cam Super Mirafiori back in the early eighties - what a flying machine that was too. The daddy of course was the Abarth one - try and find one of them now! That Fiat twin cam engine was one of the best engines ever made anywhere and by anyone.

Hi Rob,
This car would have looked the business back in the day, I'm sure your friend would have been the envy of all his mates and, dare I say, would have impressed a lot of ladies too.....
With the greatest of respect to Paul, the car in the background looks like a VW Derby to me, the grille that follows the shape of the rear side window is a dead giveaway, along with the position of the petrol filler cover just in front of the rear wheelarch. The 131 had a rectangular plastic grille at the bottom of the C pillar, which the car in the photo doesn't have.
Andrew.

Yes that would have been the car to have back then but not for me at 48 years old , I found myself looking at a Jag the other day what has a great big turbo tail and body kit so perhaps I still have young eyes .

Hi Rob,
Great pics. Really is a blast from the past. I do cringe when I think back to what I’ve done to Capris back in the eighties!!!
I was going to go with a Saab 90 in the background, but now I’m sure I’m wrong, thanks Andrew.... But as to the Fiat Supermirafiori what a car that was, only had a ride in one a few times before I was old enough to drive, but it was weirdly great!!! Cheers,
John.

Re: Blast from the past.
Should have looked harder and known that! Not as sporty as the Mirafiori but would have lasted a lot longer!

Re: Blast from the past.
You're right, when was the last time anybody saw a 131? I don't even see them at any car shows. 21 Mirafiori and 131 are licensed in total, that explains why they are very rare 'in the wild'.Paul G wrote: Not as sporty as the Mirafiori but would have lasted a lot longer!

Re: Blast from the past.
Thanks for the replies, brought some good memories seeing it again. Was quite envious of it at the time, prefer original now. He paid something like £6k for it, which was a load of money then for a used car.
My father ran a polo bread van as in background in poverty spec, had a scary moment in it first time I drove it. Nearly went straight over a roundabout as the brakes were .
I'm sure the signal to stop was sent by letter not brake fluid

Re: Blast from the past.
6k was a bloody expensive car in the 80s..
I paid 3 and a half grand for my 3 year old Laser and bust my balls to do so.
Sold my fully kitted 1.3 L to get my grubby mits on it.
The Fiat 131 became a popular power plant swap with custom Moggy owners....
