Classic Rally Escort Capri Repair

This is an excellent classic clip of a 1976 rally. Basically the Escort breaks down, the co-driver takes apart the diff from a spectator's Capri and fits it there and then so the Escort can continue to race!

Forward to around 17.10 if you don't wish to watch it all.

This is a great clip! The Capri driver goes above and beyond the call of duty to help out the team.

Andrew.

Is that 4 star petrol for 73p a gallon at the start? You could have a point on things being better in the old days

Some brilliant footage there Paul, loved seeing those cars in action. Don't know if I could have agreed so readily to that ( don't worry mate, we'll book you in to the :ford: dealer down the road for a new one ) but they couldn't get one :) Hope he got it down there & fixed in decent time. Great Video though.

I know, he's very affable isn't he. Don't think I would be! Thanks Andrew.

Well spotted! We would kill for 4 star now at any price wouldn't we, never mind 73p. Cheers Peter.

Thank you Rob. I love seeing them too, but when I found out what happened with the Capri I couldn't believe it. Would any of us have agreed I wonder?!

Until fairly recently, it was still possible to buy 4 star in this country. Only small independants were allowed to sell it though, and it cost an arm an a leg to buy. I remember seeing it for sale in a tiny garage in Leicester about four or five years ago. It was an old school place where a man in a technicians coat came out and filled your car up for you!
There's still no need to commit murder though Paul, as you can still buy leaded petrol in Algeria. It's supplied by a firm in Cheshire, apparently.

Andrew.

So, it is still available, just, hanging on by the skin of it's teeth! It can't be long though, before it's simply not available full stop. But then again, have we actually missed it, have any of us actually needed it?
