I'm all in favour of any extra device which helps with security, so full credit to you Andy if you choose one of these devices.

My only concern would be that, as these devices appear, the original devices which they are meant to detect become cleverer (is that even a word?) and are adapted to cope, meaning yours may need upgrading or changing then, and so on. So you might find you need to buy another in a years time.

Technology is a never ending game of tail chasing. But as said, absolutely nothing wrong with adding to your security portfolio.

Good points mate and worth thinking about.
Unless you lock them away and barricade them in (Where is the fun in that) cars will always be at risk.

Don't forget though that they don't always want it that bad. Sometimes it's because it looks easy. Making it harder will still stop some potential thieves, so deterrents are still good. The more in number and complexity the better.

So really my mother in law picture is the only thing that will work .

Not the sort of cars you could drive around for too long as they are so conspicuous, and not particularly fast compared to modern cars like the Focus ST, Astra VXR that are plentiful which I can understand being stolen for spares or to be 'ringed'.

Not good for Classic Insurance premiums

It's a shame prices aren't what they were, high prices for cars and parts was always going to drive this. If somebody wants it they'll get it 9 times out of 10, the problem is the market, no market, no thefts.

I agree - if they really really want that particular car they will have it, but how much they want it may be balanced out by the difficulty of getting it. If it has a disklok on then it's only moving with an angle grinder to take it off, or a hiab. Either of those things will draw attention to the thieves. And as these things are planned, you are hopefully fine parking when out and about because they won't be trawling the Tesco car park with equipment to steal a 1980s Ford!

That's the one place I would never park it anyway. Any little dings it has now are from the 1990's and I don't wish to add anymore

When I get round to rebuilding my 3.0S I'm seriously thinking of stamping the VIN number in several places around the car where they can't be seen but would help identify bits if it ever were pinched. I've already removed the interior and the bits that make it an "S" and they are under lock and key and it's parked on a steep drive with two alarmed and locked vehicles behind it, both of which would take about 3-4 people to push them out. It is also covered by a floodlight and cctv.

When it is done I will fit a disclock and immobiliser/tracker etc but I will also make sure it is insured properly should the worst happen. Both the cars I have ever had stolen have been Fords ( Sierra Cosworth and Sierra 2.0iS) so I'm keep the finished Capri in the garage to try to prevent it becoming no 3!

I always just park in the farthest corner from the doors. Most supermarket shoppers seem to think it's important to park as close to the doors as possible.

I always do that but it doesn't always work. You'd be amazed at how often I return to the car to find another car parked in the space alongside......in an otherwise almost empty car park!

Mk2 XR2 F275TRL. Stolen at 4.20 am this morning from the Wisewood area of North West Sheffield. Its Mercury Grey (Dark Grey)

I've just read about the xr2 on another forum and it was found damaged

"Was my cousins, found this afternoon (thanks to facebook bombardment) about 3 miles away at foxhill just of the A61 main rd out of north of Sheffield. 
Front caved in damage looks like its hit a step bumper on back of a van over, 30 min trying to get throuh to plod on 101 turned up & said it's been reported in an incident.

Olden init! yep an 89, oh a year older than me says plod!

Was seen with a modern silver hatchback was under bedroom window so saw heard it go off drive , nothing missing except drivers headrest?!

Very minimal damage re getting in/ getting started in so not yobs.
much further on A61 & your in sticks with either M1 or normal roads towards Barnsley is your next major encounter.

Will need bumper,front panel,bonnet,grille blade,one wing,rad prob fan,spots (very expensive ) head lights & indicators the paint.

Plus victim fine of £150 (2 mile to compound!) & £ 50 a day storeage.

So no doubt will be written off."

Glad it has been found despite damage.

A wheel clamp or disklok would probably have stopped it being taken....

Victim fine

My mate who had his Focus RS stolen last May, as off last Sunday still hasn't had the insurance pay out even though it has been to court and sorted viewtopic.php?f=10&t=51308

I'm pleased that the car has been found, but saddened to hear that it could be written off by the insurance company.
Does anybody know what this victim fine is about? I can't believe that victims have to pay a fine and can only assume it's a misunderstanding and it refers to the victim surcharge that is levied upon the thief.
