Agree it should have been kept standard, and found another base that needed work. Back when I had an Ereg black 2.8i nobody would have cared less, but I did only pay £400 for it, times change.
If they hadn't wasted time on tattoos we might have seen something of the engine install.. The drive line, brakes, suspension etc. didn't even get a mention, or did I nod off.
If you've gone down the road of big arches etc. , then for me it needed some aero, a standard spoiler and nothing on the front didn't really cut it.
Also like the Escort, keeping on about "never been done before" what hasn't ? The Coyote is still the 32V Modular, so they're about the 5th to my knowledge to do it.
The buyers on most of these programmes are usually fake, he was probably the Camera/ Sound man ;)

:agree: was hoping to see more detail on brakes, suspension, chassis improvements to cope with the extra power. For me they've just created an ugly looking Capri that will kill someone!

However liked the fact that they all loved the Capri and nice to see a female on a show like this, especially when she loves Capri's :D

Why would they build a Capri, or any car, to these specifications if they didn't have a buyer already lined up? The market for modified cars is just too small to take a chance on it. If they managed to find a buyer who was willing to part with £40K, you really do have wonder if it was a fake buyer from the production crew. The Ebay auction result shows that these cars are an acquired taste and they cost more to build than buyers in the real world are willing to pay for them.

I had a feeling the Mini was built to the buyers spec also... It was funny how they sold it to the chap they had bought spares from, even though that car would have sold easily at the the price they got.

The Mini was Salvage Hunters Neil

But I also have the feeling the cars are already sold before bought, restored/modified in both programmes......

STOP PRESS

I have had an idea for a show.

We take an ordinary current car- say a Mustang GT and remove everything to paint it, let's say for arguments sake it's Red, we could maybe spray it Red? Then, and I know this is genius but bare with me on this, a couple of you could go off and have tattoos!! I could pretend not to know so we can try and make it interesting and wait for it, another bit of genius, we could get the local artist (Banksy) or some other idiot who thinks graffiti is acceptable and get them to make us a shop sign. Anyhow going back to the 'Stang'! Whilst everything is off it we can throw the bumpers in the bin, who needs safety features. We could hit the front end with a massive spade and drill holes in it. The interior we will do something revolutionary and recover it??? not in the same smart stuff, maybe something amazing like leopard print. We could change the wheels for flying saucers and then the excitement really begins, we all take our sledge hammers and dollies along with a ton of filler, flat it off and create the shape of the Capri. Too finish it off we will try to create the front of another model, just to ruin an iconic feature, this should get us talked about, Infact I could make it. When it is done we could advertise it for an incredible amount and get somebody either lined up to buy it or fake it.

Count me in, but can we paint it highland green with a leopard skin interior & skip the tattoos :D

Waited until I'd watched the episode to comment. Having seen the car it looks really impressive in the metal.
Didn't know they'd butchered such a nice car to achieve it though. A solid bodied car like that was far too nice to use, whatever the model. No doubt Land Rover enthusiasts are appalled at them butchering the series2 they did last week.
What a concept though with that engine. Really want to hate this car but annoyingly I was impressed by it at the NEC.
Think it would look far better 2 inches lower with underbody exhausts exiting in rear valance cut outs & a black front grille.
For my money, I'd like it looking standard with that engine & (very) uprated brakes.

Like it, I may have missed one or two bits. Okay maybe we could use her for every show, she could become our test passenger? I have thought of another thing that I missed off, we need a school child to come in and put crayons to paper - getting our ideas down for visuals even though we have had long winded conversations about what we want to do even before we have bought the car, which Infact are all around the back in a lock up.

I saw this Capri in the flesh at the NEC back in November and was impressed with the quality of the work but didn’t know the base car they used.
Was disappointed when I saw the trailer!

Going by the Land Rover episode I think they wanted to cause controversy by using a fine example, and ok, it’s their car and they can do what they want, but it’s not back in the day anymore, so it was a waste of a nice 2.8i.

They say it’s how Ford should have made it...chopping off the front spoiler, rear spoiler and aerodynamic grille...even Audi with the first TT had to add the spoiler!
Ford got it right first time, if anything the xpack enhanced it further.

They should have used another model and did subtle mods like Gordon Murray did with a grey mk2 Jag and a company did with the Jensen Interceptor...sorry can’t add pics.
Then did a classy retrim of the interior rather than just the seat centres.

Solid billet wheels?

But what do I know someone brought it off them for £40k!!

Capri Spec copied from the Ebay Ad where it sold for £25701;

WE HAVE INJECTED MAJOR MUSCLE INTO THE MODEL BY FITTING A 2017 SPEC FORD MUSTANG COYOTE ENGINE – 5 LITRE, QUADCAM, 32 VALVE, 416 HP, WITH OVER £30,000 WORTH OF UPGRADES AND MODIFICATIONS.

The looks have changed radically too as we de-cluttered the silhouette, giving it a more menacing stance with a custom grille, hidden headlights and widened wheel arches. The all black colour scheme, with GT grey stripe and side mounted exhausts, adds to the unique resto-mod look.

Purchased because of superb condition of its body shell which had no welds anywhere and the original spot welds on the sills and arch edges this 1985 Mk3 was the ideal base car.

Front and rear ends were remodelled in steel.

Large GRP wheel arch extensions added and properly tubed.

The headlights reworked to accommodate a bespoke alloy grill.

Internally, the engine bay and gearbox tunnel were modified to accommodate the new engine and box. The Mustang Coyote engine is mounted to a Tremec five speed manual gearbox with uprated clutch.

All body mouldings removed and smoothed out the car was painted in gloss black.

Suspension lowered, de-cambered single leaf rear springs, Bilsteins all round.

4 pot Willwoods with 310mm discs at the front.

The disc braked rear axle uprated with LSD and 2 piece H/D half shafts.

Custom fitted pedal box, Remote servo & uprated propshaft.

Huge 8x17 front and 10x17 rear wheels by image were added as was a bespoke PAS.

The single piece prop shaft is fed by a new Tremec 5 speed H/D manual gearbox which is driven by a new 5.0 Ford Mustang 32v Engine producing approximately 450 BHP with its bespoke management system.

Bespoke exhaust manifolds feed a side exhaust.

Finally the interior has been fully re-trimmed in black, the seats in leather.

That answers a lot of questions to what was needed to make that car handle the massive increase in power. In the real world its a Capri and it would be outshone for handling and safety by any modern car with half that power. Okay for a drag strip or possibly a classic car race, but they'd have been better making some mild tweeks to the engine, suspension and brakes and ending up with a good usable classic.
However I guess that wouldn't make for good telly for the majority that watch these shows.

Personally I found this difficult to watch. So much so after they said they were putting side exits on it and ripping out the 2.8 I forwarded it to the last 5 minutes to see what they got for it and ultimately what kind of state it was in.

£40,000 for a totally non original E reg

I would have found it easier to watch if they'd towed in a total basket case. If fact Id have said hats off if they bought a wreck for a grand or two and went from there. It was simply too good a car to have that done to it. I feel more angry if anything as I'm working my arse off to get mine anywhere near as good as that one was when it arrived.

Absolutely everything I saw on that shell was bob on. It just needed a wash! I can see MASSIVE depreciation in that over the next few years, the standard E reg would have kept its value, dare I say gone up rapidly. Its too niche.

It sounded good but mate, at £40 grand get yourself an american muscle car!
Good luck to him, but i give it two years and it'll be worth £20,000. Or am i reading below thats exactly what happened??

Its just not my taste. Mk3s look amazing with very little mods - subtle is best. Fords had the style right from the start!!

They need to use an old snotter for these things, you can't make it any worse then. Its just insulting when they start chopping up a good car.

I think if they left it looking more standard with a V8 that would have been better, although I like it for what it is and should have reliability of the new Mustang..... But using that E plate as a base :crying:

Better option :?: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ford-Capri/1 ... Swe09Z8Fjv

These are the only two V8 'Muscle Cars' that would fit in my garage
