Del Boys Capri

Post by Fordoholic Nick »

This was in The Sun today. Its an article valuing all his assets he owned back then in todays money pushing him into the Millionaires Club :)

Image20170825_121923 by nicholas bowler, on Flickr

And they put a value of £25,000 on his Capri if it were being sold today... but its the slogan underneath that made me laugh "1970's Ford No longer for Dipsticks" !

Hi Nick,
Great find!
It's an interesting article, but I'm not convinced that the Capri valuation is accurate.....

If the Minder Capri sold for £65K or whatever it was then the Del Boy one must surely be worth a substantial amount too - well over what a standard GL or Ghia or whatever it is.

I agree about Porterhouse Blues, it was a load of :wank: and I only watched a few minutes of one episode - that was enough.

Wonder what his blue Volvo from Frost is worth?

Yes, the genuine car would be worth a premium over a standard car to an OFAH nut.
But mange tout! Isn't the newspaper article speculating how much Del, as a person, is worth these days? Therefore the valuation applies only to a standard car.

By my reconing, the car is a 2.0S.

Don't think it's an S, it's got beige interior and dartboard style steels, both of which a GL of the era would have had.

Hi,
You both may be correct, I don't know for sure. I checked with Cazana and CCR412W is registered as an S. Whether that is accurate or not, I'll leave you to decide. Generally, I find that Cazana is accurate for the make and model, but is usually woefully out for valuations.

Hi,
It looks like several Capris were used for filming OFAH. While researching an answer for the correct model, I viewed several clips from the show and several different registrations were shown in various episodes. A mark 2 was also used for filming. Perhaps that's the answer. Maybe the first car used was a Ghia or GL, and for whatever reason, other cars were used and must have been modified to resemble the original car to maintain continuity.

Naturally, there would have also been a few replicas made over the years, but as far as I can see, CCR412W was actually used in the series.

CCR was up for auction several years ago, and apparently is an S...
I was always led to believe there were at least 2 different Prat Mobiles used :)

I'm guessing it was a similar scenario to the Minder and Professionals Capris with several different cars being used and numberplates being switched. That's why I'd never pay the extortionate amounts that these cars go for. How do you know it is 'the' car?
