3 cars in 4 months

Post by rshyndy »

Ok let's begin. Sold my Lexus after 4 1/2 years because, well, time to move on eh???
Never put a spanner to it in that time apart from a seize caliper, clutch (easy, done in my lunch hour) and services and cambelt ect.

Sold the lex and got a Mondeo st tdci estate......
Well......drove fine for 3 weeks, had a back operation, didn't drive for 4 weeks and when I started it it bellowed smoke, idled like shit and cut out. 2 injectors down, turbo seals gone and low pressure on fuel pump according to the computer. About £1500-£2000 to repair.

Got rid of that (to a man who was fully informed of the issues and happy to repair it himself) and bought a BMW 523i for the princley sum of £300.
Made TWO 870mile round trips to North Yorkshire and a few other trips here and there and in about 6 weeks racked up nearly 4,000 miles......then the passenger rear wheel studs snapped and the wheel nearly came off. Literally heard an almighty bang and the back end was all over the place. 3 studs were sitting in the centre cap and the other 2 had snapped off completely.

Sold that back to the guy I bought it off (again he was happy to repair himself) and the car was only a stop gap until my Mrs passed her test. Which she did finally after years of nagging and 10 failed theory tests.
So 3 weeks ago I bought her a Mazda 3 and have decided to commute on my bike.
She uses the car daily with the kids and told me a few days ago about a squeaky rattle coming from the back end. I drive it and it sounded like two pieces of plastic rubbing together......oh-no i had a look earlyer as the rattle was driving me mad only to find it's a snapped rear shock top mount. Not only has it snapped but it's also ripped the mounting bolt out of the body. These bolt are like wheel studs in the top of the wheel well and you just fix the shocks to these studs with nuts.
I can fix/bodge/repair it but it just seems like a never ending cycle of shit.

So if anyone was bored enough to read this far then don't be so disheartened that your capris always seem to need attention. It's the 'new' stuff aswel.
Apologies for the long post. Only you 'car guys' can know the frustrations and constant ballaches of owning and running a vehicle. I haven't got loads of cash to spend on repairs so I get by as best I can but seriously. 3 cars in 4 months.

Someone has got a serious vendetta against me I think haha. Hopefully I can get the part I need tomorow, make a repair plate and bolt it all up tight with some jb-weld for good measure.

Well that's my Sunday and a good rant. Ain't even had a beer yet...think I need one......or something stronger if I didn't have work tomorow

Hi,
In contrast to you, I've only owned two different cars in the last 13 years!

Andrew.

Hi Andrew. I was in caerleon on Wednesday and a light blue Capri roared past me. Aren't you from that area?

On another note, the last 13 years have been my whole driving life. In that time I think Iv had my name on the logbook of over 30 vehicles. But I have had my name on the logbook of the Capri for 7 of those years
