Fuel tank
Fuel tank
I think I'm right in saying the fuel tank on a Capri has a 58 litre capacity. The question i have is what kind of mileage would you expect from a full tank of fuel from a 1.6? I know it would depend on how hard you press your right foot down. Looking for an average number.

Now it depends on a good long run or short trips on my 2.0 I can get 250 easy on a run but small trips I would say 220 . I do believe the 1.6 is better on mpg but also depends on how much weight you have in the car as well .

Re: Fuel tank
Back in the day the thinking was that the 1.6 was slightly heavier on fuel at cruising speeds than the 2 litre by something like 3mpg. Round town it was the other way with the 1.6 being 1 or 2 mpg better.
I put a mildly tuned 2.1 into a 1.6 L I had many years ago and noticed no difference at all on fuel consumption.

Re: Fuel tank
I go to Southampton and back on one full tank of petrol in my 2.0 s, that's around 300 miles. Car is full of gear too, including way too many tools than I actually need but I'd rather have them and not need them than the other way around. Re: Fuel tank
I used to drive my 1.6 everyday to school and back and used to get around 300 miles from a tank...
Since then I get more like 170-200

I take it that your foot rarely lifts off the throttle....D366Y wrote:Since then I get more like 170-200
Assuming that you nearly run the tank dry before filling up, you're getting just over 15MPG!
Andrew.

Re: Fuel tank
The Motorists Guide in my owner's handbook pack gives a 5 speed 1.6 as 27.4 mpg urban, 45.6 mpg constant 56mph and 34.4 mpg at 75 mph. Obviously these are for a new car and still with the VV carb fitted.
I personally think you would be hard put to get these figures in a 30+ year old and it all depends on how well maintained and tuned the engine is as well as resisting the lead footed driving styles which Capris seem to bring out in all of us!

Re: Fuel tank
I did a 410 mile journey in my a couple of months ago on just over a full tank's worth (I always aim to fill up at half a tank). Reckon that was around 30mpg, which isn't too bad (driving a mixture of around town and long motorway stretches). This is on a 1.6 with a Weber 34ICH.
That being said, that's not scientific! I did keep a few fuel receipts and note mileages etc to see if any difference was noticable between different brands or grades of petrol, but didn't seem to notice much difference.

Re: Fuel tank
The best I ever got was with a Weber 34 IHC carb on it, sat doing 60mph on the way to Manchester (around 150miles from me) and I got around 35mpg.
But as everyone else as said, ragging it around is much more fun
