Photobucket requiring charges?

Post by Will01 »

Who else has run into this issue?
I have been told if i go to link photobucket.com/p500 it means i have to upgrade my photobucket account because apparently i am 3rd party hosting.
does this mean i have linked my photos incorrectly to Ford Capri Forum?
This is the only site i require my photobucket for. just wondering if i have done anything wrong in setup?
i did go to charges and it said £399 or something!!!
Plans have changed to just make a good fun Track Car :)

Hi,
New terms and conditions at Photobucket that affects everyone. You now can't use photos that are on Photobucket on other sites.
I can't see the point of using Photobucket except for hosting photos that are used on forums and the like, so to charge, I think, $399 a year is ridiculous. Why would anyone pay that when they can use Flickr or Imgur, to name two, for free?

Andrew.

Yeah photobucket sucks balls. It rarely works for me, the amount of times ive wanted to upload a photo but couldn't because the site was broken that day. Bloody useless!
Flickr is the best alternative, however some sites (like Capri Power) lose their minds whenever you try to upload a picture there using flickr's links. Like seriously its ridiculous.

They've screwed a lot of people, me included.
Anything you posted in the past wasn't wrong but they have changed their rules so now the images probably won't show.
I've started to put mine on Flickr but you have to go back and repost the img codes if you want old pictures to show up.

The guys on CP have been using this

https://fixphotobucket.com/

or using this to post pictures

https://postimages.org/

They are upgrading the whole forum soon to try and make image posting easier.

Ok so I am not alone. I just gonna cancel and take down photos from photobucket. It is the only reason why I have in order to post on this forum.

Photobucket seems to be working fine for me, and I don't pay. It is really easy, perhaps you are using different methods to post pics or something? The ones below just took seconds, really. Not sure why you might be having trouble?

I suspect its volume Paul. I don't know how many pictures you have uploaded to PB or how many of those are linked to forums. I had used 55% of my free storage but a high percentage of that was linked to threads on here. It's affected a lot of people everywhere. So either they are not bothered up to a limit (whatever that might be) or they will gradually catch up with everyone and disable the links but to me it suggests it's not worth using PB in future if there is a risk that all pictures will be disabled.

Thanks Peter. Personally I wouldn't use anything online or virtual for storage, the lack of control is scary. I have it all in my possession, and backed up. I have been to so many people who have had disasters otherwise. It's like having a car and thinking it will never need to have a repair. It will one day. And when something computer related goes wrong, with no backups, you've had it. So Photobucket is just a convenient method to post pics on here, for me really.

Glad you like it Jason :) I just took two random pics from my Photobucket, just to test that it still works! It is a custom model, but not done by me. There is a proper thread on it here -

Out of curiosity, are the Photobucket accounts locked completely or is it simply the third party website hosting feature that is denied?

Andrew.

Hi,
I see the "How to post pictures on the forum" thread has been updated to reflect the Photobucket situation. Nice one Admin! :D

Shame Beakster's own banner photo was being hosted on PB though........

It's the hosting Andrew. I can still login and look at my own snaps but that's about it. Just demonstrates the problem with 'the cloud' as far as I'm concerned. Someone changes the rules and you're stuffed :(

Ditch photobucket, it's a relic, a dinosaur, and it's heading the same way they did

Exactly Peter. This should be a warning to all those who do not keep their valuable computer info in their own possession, and backed up.
