Hi people,so have just picked up my new 3.0s
Quick question or so.
How can I tell if need lead additive or can run freely on unleaded?
How can you tell if has fibre or steel timing gear?
Does anyone know where I could pick up the small rs centre steering wheel cap?
Will probably have a few more as crawling all over it today.
Oh yeah bonnet release seems very stiff almost to the point of breaking when pulling,I don't remember that from my previous 2.8i etc,but has been 20 years since I have owned one
All the same absolutly over the moon, nothing like that driving position and v6 burble
Anyone know

Re: Anyone know
A standard 3.0S would need lead additive and would have a fibre timing gear. The best thing on both these is to ask the previous owner and if he/she doesn't know then I'd assume that it hasn't been modified. Sometimes the steel timing gears will whine a bit which would indicate one is fitted but the only safe way of knowing is to strip it all out and see for yourself.
Can't help you with the RS badge - do you mean the cap with the two flags as fitted to a MK2 S or the proper RS cap? Ebay or ask the various breakers/parts suppliers.
The bonnet cable should not be too stiff - try greasing the bonnet latch and if that doesn't work then probably it's best to put a new cable on. Mine snapped on my 3.0S but I managed to get the grille off to get it open.
Sunroof sounds like a problem in the winder mechanism, sorry i don't know enough about them.

Re: Anyone know
Thanks fa reply.
Kinda thought I'd need to add additive, just wondered if anyway of telling, same as timing gear, without dismantling it all.
In future was poss planning an engine overhaul that would mean unleaded heads, timing gear fast road cam,oil pump, etc, memories of years back I remember the Essex v6 responds well to this.
Indicators are not turning off automatically, and passenger side wiper just packed up.(knew I shouldn't have gone out in the wet)
Ah the joys of having a classic back.love it.
Yes the rs logo on steering wheel, not the big padded one,I see one on eBay bet my old one was just a pop in/out one.probably scour auto jumbles at car shows.

Re the wiper, is it just the nut come loose that holds the wiper arm on to the spindle?Cockneyreject wrote:Thanks fa reply.

Re: Anyone know
Take the steering wheel off and check to see if the small plastic tab behind it that self cancels the indicators is broken. All it is is a plastic sleeve that goes over the steering column with a plastic tab that sits into a small hole in the steering wheel which turns with the wheel and cancels the indicators. If this is broken and not holding into the wheel then that will be your problem, and should be a cheap and easy fix as long as you can find a replacement. Try Capri Gear for stuff like that.

Re: Anyone know
Sometimes the sleeve/ tab for cancelling indicators is present on the column but just wrongly aligned. If so it just needs sliding off and putting back on the right way. Ive had this twice on different cars over the years.
