Highly recommended radiator specialist
Highly recommended radiator specialist
I recently had to replace the radiator in my 2.0 S due to some annoying overheating issues.
I eventually found a firm on eBay who makes uprated core, race-spec rads out of aluminium.
Considering a stock spec new radiator isnt much cheaper i thought it was a pretty good upgrade and investment, as well as looking cool AF under the bonnet
The rad i got (linked below) fit perfectly, but i did have to pay extra to have the mounting brackets for the fan shroud added.
Despite requiring this modification they got me my new radiator in just two days, and on top of that they did it all without being paid yet as their card machine wasn't working at the time so they couldn't authorise my payment.
Now thats a sign of trust and a great gesture for your customers!
You can get new rads fitted with all types of extras from these people too, including manual or auto fans etc. They seem to be a very high quality, the welds all look lovely and they come with a new cap and a nice and easy to get to drainage plug at the bottom and like i said earlier they look the business too (no pics of it in my car yet, forgot to take pictures last night when i fitted it).
It also seems to have fixed my overheating problem as well.
Usually the distance i normally have to travel to my dads place makes the car get to around half way on the temp gauge on the old radiator in this heat, but coming home, same distance, same traffic flow the temp gauge barely got over a quarter, and thats with me driving like Winston Wolf on the way home.
Here is the link to the rad i bought as well as the company on eBay:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FORD-CAPRI-1- ... SwU9xUNt-L
Expensive at first glance, but considering how much stock rads are and taking into account the fact these are uprated to race-spec and how good they look on top of it then i think its a far better deal for your money.
Plus, if you decide to upgrade your engine in the future with a racier cam and ported heads and a bigger carb you already have the extra cooling power to keep everything happy.

Glad you're hapy with it. You ought to add the supplying firm's name to the list of recommended parts sources.
Has it stopped the high temperature stalling yet?

No way Arya man ! As already said you would expect to pay more for such an item as this so hopefully the quality is as good as it looks in the picsrshyndy wrote:EXPENSIVE AT FIRST GLANCE?

I haven't been able to properly test it to see if the engine gets hot yet, but based on what i said in my first post, its looking good so far.
Gonna give it a proper test today.
Wow really? Then its a bargain then! lol.rshyndy wrote:EXPENSIVE AT FIRST GLANCE???

The quality seems to be of a very high standard. Its of course too early to tell with things like this, their true sign of quality will show in a couple of years or so but at least at face value they seem to be very well made. All the welds are neat and tidy, they are hefty and sturdy without being too heavy and everything just feels like a quality product, and as i said their service was beyond great. I still haven't paid for it yet, they were going to call me when they got their card machine sorted but i still haven't heard from them yet.
Re: Highly recommended radiator specialist
Quick update: this rad seems to have fixed my slight overheating and shitty running issue. Got stuck in traffic after a fairly long drive in this searing heat and the temp never went above a quarter, usually it would hit half way while driving (and rise even higher when sitting still) and want to conk out and splutter when sitting in traffic and I'd have to keep hitting the throttle to stop it dying, and that's on days that aren't half as hot as they are today, even during the winter months it would do this! I didn't have to worry about it stalling once today! Incredible difference.
Re: Highly recommended radiator specialist
Mine literally burst yesterday and I got a spray of coolant in the face when investigating So will be ordering one of these tomorrow.. thanks for the link!

Re: Highly recommended radiator specialist
No problem, happy to be sending them so much new business. Gave the car another drive just now as i had to drive home after skate practice and the temp gauge barely went above a quarter, infact it stayed below it much of the time but no surprise considering its later in the day and it has cooled off a tiny bit. Car ran perfectly...it was one of those drives home where everything just seemed to melt away and you feel good and happy about life for a change.Major_Tom wrote:Mine literally burst yesterday and I got a spray of coolant in the face when investigating So will be ordering one of these tomorrow.. thanks for the link!
Absolutely over the moon with it and it looks awesome in the engine bay too.

If anyone cares, this is the same rad I have fitted in mine, which has recently cracked along the bottom seal...
Lasted 2/3yrs though, and fingers crossed its just this one rad, don't want to have to replace it every few years...
Cheers guys

Thats a shame, hopefully its just a fluke since they are hand made so hopefully just a case of human error? Im sure they would repair it for you if you contacted them, they seem like stand up people.D366Y wrote:If anyone cares, this is the same rad I have fitted in mine, which has recently cracked along the bottom seal...

Re: Highly recommended radiator specialist
Fair play to them, I called and asked if there was any chance they could repair it as I got it about 2/3yrs ago and he said if I send it back then he will try and see if he can repair it... FOR FREE!
Chap said he would be hoping that they last much longer than that anyway, so I just need to find a box big enough to send a radiator back in
Not sure how I feel about not being able to drive the car though in this lovely weather....
Cheers

Re: Highly recommended radiator specialist
Well thats good at least. Its great to see people actually standing by their work, i had a similar situation with my steering rack. I bought a refurbished one (as you cant find them anywhere else) off a specialist on eBay but just over a year later we found play in one of the arms. They only say they guarantee them for a year on the eBay page but when i contacted them and told them the situation they sent me another rack right away for free.D366Y wrote:Fair play to them, I called and asked if there was any chance they could repair it as I got it about 2/3yrs ago and he said if I send it back then he will try and see if he can repair it... Re: Highly recommended radiator specialist
On the basis of this I got in touch to ask if they happen to make an equivalent quality rad suitable for my non Capri rebuild project (MGB). They responded straight away that they are making a batch within 2 to 3 months and asked to pass on their thanks to members of the Capri Laser Forum who've been recommending their rads.

There are some good guys out there. I have an air rifle over 5 years old. It was down on power so took it back to the shop, who sent it back to the manufacturer, Gamo. They completely refurbished it free of charge. Was really pleased. If only more companies put customer service and reputation as high as that.

Heres a picture of mine finally: (ignore the dirt and odd coloured strut top mount, i do intend on fixing that soon.)
I do plan on getting some spacers for the black piece so it matches up with the radiator to fill in that gap, other than that it looks great.

Re: Highly recommended radiator specialist
Yeah it was a pleasant surprise as I was half expecting them to tell me where I could go
Also y original rad crumbled to dust which is why is went away, but I think with it off the road (when it happens) I will just have to spend some more time with the other one... or just steal that rad instead... we'll see haha.
Also it's strange how yours is too low, yet mine was too high and hit the top of the radiator itself along the weld so I had to grind 1/2mm off the edge of my radiator cover...
Capris eh??
