Seriously every time i see a video from this meet there are always hordes of cyclists, like they are part of some sort of screwed up zombie apocalypse only the zombies are replaced with something even worse....Saddle Jockeys!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oya87b0xliQ

And skids.....lots of skids.

(BTW if anyone is getting sick of me posting these videos just say so and i'll stop)

A lot of comments on the video re; Cyclists......Looks like a nasty bit of road if you aren't careful.

There always seems to be someone that wont let them them pull out, and would rather cross onto the other side of the road instead
Although the law would say the car on the road has the right of way, I will often let a car out of a Junction if I can as I appreciate it when someone lets me out.

Will watch this in full at some stage :)

Yeah I mean I can see why the cyclists would be angry, as there are some tw@tty drivers in the video, so i sympathise....a little ;)

Heh, frankly if I were a cyclist that is where i'd rather be what with how bad the potholes in our roads are and how bad some of the drivers are.

You gotta be crazy to ride a bike on the streets these days! Nah, give me a safety cage and 4 wheels any day. I know its "good for the environment" and all to cycle but im not risking my life for some Polar Bears and a bit of ice!

Hi,
To be fair, it doesn't look like the easiest place to emerge out of into the road. Add that to drivers showing off and it's an accident waiting to happen, in my opinion.
I don't want to sound like an old fuddy-duddy, but driving like an idiot causes the local residents to complain, then the police get involved and are obliged to act on those complaints. That could jeopardise the future of the meet, and that's a shame as it does look like a great gathering of very nice cars.

Andrew.

Great to watch but some of those drivers ought to think carefully - it only takes one efficious copper to see the clips and there they are, registrations displayed and evidence to nick them for dangerous driving.

Don't start me on about cyclists though!

:agree: Grandad
This isn't the place to drive like a ****! Most of these drivers are old enough to know better, and should have more respect for Classic Cars.
Someone will get hurt and then we all suffer  I've nothing against a bit of acceleration, but some take the P.

I was talking to a chap in Plymouth a couple of years ago, who organises some car events locally, and he was contacted by the Police regarding dangerous driving at an event he had nothing to do with and was miles away......
All because his name was linked somewhere to this sort of gathering

Exactly! It really can be anything but fun for a lot of cyclists on some roads, and for many cycling is the only mode of transport they have. The roads are getting more and more dangerous. If only everyone could be friendly out there instead of all this aggression.

Actually, cyclists are 'allowed' on pavements now, to some degree, there was some sort of rule passed recently I think, whereby if you deem it safer to hop onto the pavement then you can do so.

That's a manic video by the way, couldn't stop watching it! Usually when meets are ending I like to watch everyone go, that takes it to a whole new level.

Rule 64 of the highway code seems pretty clear*.
https://www.gov.uk/guidance/the-highway ... s-59-to-82

*Unless it's designated for use by cyclists, of course.

Rule 69;
You MUST obey all traffic signs and traffic light signals.
Rule 71;
You MUST NOT cross the stop line when the traffic lights are red. Some junctions have an advanced stop line to enable you to wait and position yourself ahead of other traffic (see Rule 178).
Yeah right

Yeah right
Merc and BMW drivers could do with reading these parts as well...

As I mentioned though, there was a recent ruling/judgement, I assume it overrides that now. Due to the dangers on the road cyclists may opt for the pavement in the interest of safety.

In my area some newer pavements are shared for pedestrians and cyclists and signposted as such.

Cyclists seem to be getting quite a bad rap on here......I can't understand why. :sarcasmalert:

I reckon drivers will be getting it far worse on the cycling forums!

I thought I would chip in on this as I have a foot in each camp so to speak. As well as driving a Capri and occasionally my wife's Rav I also manage a sizeable bike shop.

There's not much love for cyclists on the video comments but drivers might not realise Box Hill has been popular with cyclists since the 1880's and has been a big draw since featuring on the Olympic Road race route. The sense of entitlement in the comments seems a little unjustified and you could argue bikes were actually there first. I myself prefer mountain bikes so you won't ever see me riding there and certainly not in lycra!

Regards the driving in the video, I love a burnout but there's definitely a line between having a bit of fun and a reckless disregard for others. One or two have crossed the line here. Why not keep the antics off the public road? Plenty of room on the car park exit strip to smoke the tyres. No-one wants to see an accident. Incidentally the police were present this time but very low key.

On a more positive note that's probably the biggest meet so far at Box Hill with an estimated 130 cars. It was packed by 8.30 for a 10am start and there were some fantastic cars. Next ones in June I think.

Looking at the standard of driving makes me embarrassed to be part of the ford scene if I'm honest..... All this fucking noise and show boating, lucky someone wasn't killed...

Not one of wm can match the revs to the steering angle. All 1st gear burnouts. Novices.

I used to go down Boxhill on the Motorbike, all the Sundays I could back in the 90's. A great place to go....

Then when I visited a few times in the Cappa, I will say, each time I've seen what was very nearly a Wipe Out happen!!! Some crazy people just going up & down, backwards and forwards burning out.... Don't get me wrong, nowt wrong with having a laugh and showing off from time to time, but there is a time and a place and some of these guys will get these meets closed down for good with some of the antics they pull.... With Glyn of this one.... They started pulling this down Walton Bridge a while ago too....

Dam, reading this back I've got old all of a sudden....

Cheers,

John....

P.S. Still got a 2.8i..... :xd: :xd: :xd:
