Temp gauge
Temp gauge
Looking for a bit of advice again......sorry. I posted a while back regards my temp gauge. I wasn't wired up. I've found the wire to connect it up but the temp gauge just shoots up to the top. Same as the fuel gauge. I cleaned up the connectios on the fuel gauge, now i get a reading with the ignition on but with the engine off. As soon as i start the engine the fuel gauge shoots up same as the temp gauge. Anyone any ideas......sorry again.

Maybe a faulty voltage regulator? That's the first thing I would check.
It's easy to test. Take the wire off the temperature sender and test the voltage with a multimeter. It should read around 5V.
Here's a how-to guide on replacing the regulator:

A 7805 chip costs £1 or less, so if that's the problem, it's a nice cheap fix.
Andrew.
Re: Temp gauge
Thanks. I'll give that a go. Sounds like it should do the trick. Thanks again.
Re: Temp gauge
Put the new regulator on. Now my gauges dont register at all. Looks like no power getting to it. Anyone any ideas...Thanks.

Hi,
Sounds like a job for a circuit tester or multimeter to find out where the power is being lost.
The place to start would be the black/wire fed from fuse number 7 and work towards the gauges from there. If the rest of the warning lights etc on the dash pod work, I would suspect a wiring fault somewhere between the multiplug and the gauges themselves.
Andrew.

Re: Temp gauge
I had power before i did the regulator now nothing att all. I was thinking maybe a bad earth. I'll check the wiring.
Re: Temp gauge
Took the module back out then put it back in and the needles are moving again. Only thing is they are just doing the same thing as before i put the new regulator in. He connection between the module to the back of the clocks is a bit dodgy, dont know if that would cause a problem. I think it must be a bad earth somewhere
