Modern cars..

Post by Major_Tom »

..I borrowed my mum's Peugeot 207 CC the other day.

What a dreadful car. Let me list the ways in which it is dreadful:

1: It says it has back seats, but it doesn't really unless you have no hips or legs

2: The doors are heavier than a pinto engine

3: The handbrake is in jus the right position to strain my lower spine whenever it is used.

4: You can't just cancel the signal, it stays on for 2-3 seconds (which is ages on the road) so if you signal then change your mind (or the girl changes her mind more likely), you can't, and must turn anyway.

5: You can't sit there with the engine off listening to the radio for more than three minutes, because it says "economy mode active" and turns everything off. So you have to sit there with the engine running if you are stationary and want to listen to the radio

6: It is a diesel but terrible on fuel

7: The door mirrors fold in when you lock it with a strained moaning buzz which is really embarrassing

8: The electric windows, like on most cars, are nearly impossible to open to precisely the point you want them, so you find yourself going up and down for bloody ages and being distracted.

I spent my whole time hoping nobody saw me in it, which probably isn't the look they were going for.

I passed a Pug 206 the other day with a "honk if you want a blow job" sticker on the back, with two blondes up front. Sadly my horn has stopped working!

Hi,
Without wishing to disrespect your Mother's choice in cars, I really don't like the styling of modern Peugeots.
What's with the slab-sided edges on the wheel arches?
In response to point 4 of your list, are the signals like on some (maybe all?) modern Fords? If you flick them for a lane-changing signal they flash 3 times and auto-cancel after that, but can't be cancelled if you change your mind. If you fully click the stalk into position, the indicator can be cancelled straight away if you wish.

Best number plate I think I've ever seen.

Unfortunately this is my dad's daily so I know all to well how dreadful they are. The handbrake is in such a moronic place it makes you wonder whether they actually expect you to use it or not, the fuel consumption is as you say, dreadful, but my biggest complaint is the rear seats.

He dropped me to the airport once with my better half, and on the way there I was a gent and said she could sit up front but actually I couldn't even get my legs in behind the bloody seat; I'd struggle to fit a briefcase on those back seats let alone an actual person!

God help Vauxhall. Imagine that, made in Slovakia and sold with a Vauxhall badge on it.

Nifty boot release button though, right in the centre of the 0 in 207.

A friend asked me if I wasn't worried about breaking down driving a Capri. I pointed out that even if I did, the set of spanners and a few parts kept in the boot would likely get me home, if not properly fixed at the side of the road.

Fast forward a few months and their shiny 5 year old car is towed to a garage at great expense when something breaks! (Can't for the life of me remember what now but it was something ridiculously straightforward).

It made me chuckle! Wouldn't it be funny if that was the girl's initials and she was unaware of the double meaning?

I recently had the "pleasure" of a Vauxhall Mokka for a day, I hate modern cars with a vengeance (we have an S Max for a daily though), but the Mokka was something else, the short wheelbase, with wideish track and high centre of gravity meant that driving it on the local roads (cart tracks in reality) was akin to sailing a tall ship in a force 10 wind, it bounced down the road lurching from side to side, and keeping it in a straight line was almost impossible.

I'm used to a bit of a thud when I shut the doors on my own car, and I was surprised when I shut the Mokka's door, okay, it was new, with 60 miles on the clock, and the door shut with a reassuring twang, similar to chucking an old washing machine across a patch of concrete, it took 3 attempts to actually shut the door properly, as the door rubbers were obviously sturdier than the doors

Interior wise it was full of that cheap Vauxhall plastic, the type usually reserved for cheap garden pots, that you can scratch by looking at, the glove box lid flexed when you shut it, and it was generally shyte, but fear not, you can get one down at your local dealers for around £24,000, should you feel the need...

As much as I moan about it, I think I'll be keeping the S Max for a couple more years, it's like driving a tank, it has plenty of pointless features that I never have, and never will use, but at least it's got a Ford badge on the front.

Well, my wife has a Mokka and loves it! It's an automatic as well and we find it really comfortable to drive. Nice and nippy for a 1.4 turbo. You must have just driven a dog!
