That's a job well done Ayra !Arya2.0S wrote:Funny, i just did mine today, what a pig of a job! That number 3 cylinder is no joke with the carb on! Still not right but at least now i know what im doing so wont take as long the next time.
As you say now you have done it today this job wont be so "daunting" next time...you know exactly what to expect. I had help from John last year to show me how its done so now like yourself it wont be half as "worrying" for me when I come to do them again, especially as I now have a proper valve spanner for "that" valve adjuster
All the best

Nice find mate, especially as they are very hard to buy now. The modern version I suppose is the crows feet which also look very useful indeed, but its really nice to have the "original" toolDansta wrote:Aha. That's what it is. Course you can mate.....£35 inc p+p
Yep, quite a lot I know but the chap said its like new...only used couple of times and as these are pretty hard to find its nice to have it in toolbox. Steve I am a sucker for "rare-ish" stuff like this so as said maybe paid a tad too much but am very happy to get one at last as I been keeping an eye out for one
All the best fella

No, SP are a quality tool and absolutely the best for the job. Same as mine - and i`m sure I paid £20+ back in the `80s, so £35`s fair.

Seems like a decent enough price I paid then mate. TBH I was just really happy to finally find one especially in such nice condition too as they dont come up for sale that often. It was a "buy it now" and must have only just come onto ebay so I just had to snap it up. Its also very good to know you got one the same and it does the job well just as it's meant.
All the best Steve

I found one of these in my garage tool box last year. Gave it to a mate of mine who has a pinto in his escort. Don't tell me they're worth money?

What tool did you use for yours, crows foot spanner?Arya2.0S wrote:Funny, i just did mine today, what a pig of a job! That number 3 cylinder is no joke with the carb on! Still not right but at least now i know what im doing so wont take as long the next time.

One of these on dreaded number 3:pbar wrote:What tool did you use for yours, crows foot spanner?Arya2.0S wrote:Funny, i just did mine today, what a pig of a job! But to be honest with you, it didn't really help much. The lock nut was so tight with this on the extension bar i couldn't get enough leverage, so had to just use the normal spanner which was a pain, and once it was loosened i used one of these but without the extension or ratchet and just held it on there by hand (basically worked better than using my oily fingers) and undid the lock nut further as i needed and to hold the lock nut in place while i adjusted the ball stud thingy, did the same but in reverse to do it up.
Got there in the end though.

Money spent on tools is very rarely a waste of money.

Im sure they'll probably come in handy some other time, and they did help a little but not essential to the job, and at the moment could have done without spending extra on something i didnt really need. I mean technically i dont even own the 3/8" extension they attach to, i was only borrowing that socket set so once i give that back they are all but useless to me until i can buy my own socket set.Caprigear wrote:Money spent on tools is very rarely a waste of money.
Still, better to have and not need than the other way around i suppose.
