Queen Square Meet....at last !

Post by Fordoholic Nick »

Well chaps, as title says, I "finally" managed to get down to Bristol for this morning meet today...en route (ish) to visiting my parents up in Yorkshire ! I drove over to Johns parked up the Fiesta and got a ride down with him in his Special, and on the way we met with Danny in his Laser and convoyed down to Bristol nice and early and met up with Andrew to have a good look at all the classics parked up........ermmmmm.....hmmmmm........

Ok ! I will come clean to what really happened

Driving over to Johns at 5.45am for a nice early start to the day for us all, I was barely a mile from him when I realised I had left my wallet at home due to a "situation" with the neighbours cat that actually kind of lives with us ! Soooo having realised missing wallet I turned back home to go pick it up and again drive back out to John. So this put us an hour behind schedule ! This meant our arrival in Queen Square sort of coincided with the departure of alot of the classics that Andrew had already seen and photo'ed ! What a shame cause it looks a terrific meet in a lovely location, even in the cold, damp morning it was. I will definately pop over again when the weather picks up, hopefully in B112 AAT.

BUT.....I have to say I had a great drive down in Johns 2.8i Special and a great convoy down with Danny in his smashing 1.6 Laser with 3" Tailpipe sticking out the back that he was very keen for us to "know about" every so often  :D

Danny, great Capri fella and really good to meet up with you again. Keep up the great work mate. Nice one !
John, thanks for the ride in your Special...again !! Sounds as great as it performs mate. Sorry it got so dirty. I can only "imagine" how you felt as mine was at home inside my garage :)...and to top it off Danny's Laser still had the shine after his late night waxing
Andrew, always a pleasure to meet up with you fella. Had a good chat and hope to see you again soon...Beaulieu ?

As was said on another thread as nice as it is to pop along to these shows its the meeting up with fellow forum members that makes it worth the effort. Had a great morning meeting up guys. Thanks and apologies again for the late running.

Now up in Yorkshire with my parents. On arrival I thought I had left my wallet back at Johns....but dont tell him I said this

All the best

Nick

PS. I got a few photos and one brief convoy video to follow over on The Gallery either later tonight or tomorro as my mums laptop is bleedin slow !!

PPS Thought I would come clean early before John got a chance to take the piss

PPPS....just in case nobody believed me about the cat story....

Hi Nick,
As always it was great to catch up with you and John and meet Danny for the first time. Both cars looked great and both sounded fantastic as they blasted past me on the M32!
Sorry you didn't get to see much, but another visit in the summer months should bring out more cars for you all to see.

By the way, I'm dying to know what sort of wallet-based incident this cat caused?

All the best,
Andrew.

Well Andrew, and for anyone else interested

Once upon a time........

There's a cat that the people in flat above actually own but cause Mrs Fordoholic Nick keeps feeding it it kind of lives with us most of the time. The owners upstairs dont mind one bit as he has always been a bit of a "chap" has this cat. Does what he wants ! Anyhow he has got quite attached to the missus.

So, anyway back to yesterday morning.......

The missus was staying with a couple of her sisters down in Deal, Kent on Sat night visiting her other sister who lives there so I had the place to myself. So set the alarm for 05.00am so I had loads of time to get ready and over to John's for 06.15am so we could meet up with Danny and set off nice and early to be down in Queens Square to see yourself and all the classics. Soooo, anyway I am all set to go. Got jacket draped over my arm with a few other bits including my wallet. In the end I was running about 10mins behind my scheduled departure time for Johns so I really wanted to get on the road sharpish as did not want to keep John, or Danny waiting as they also had to set their alarms for "crazy O'Clock" on a freezing cold Sun morn in early Feb !
So, as said all ready to dash out to car, but when I opened the door the bleedin cat must have been in the hallway as he darted past me into the flat and was running around room to room as I tried to get the buffoon of an animal back out into the hallway so I could get going. "What seemed like an age" past and hes still at it...now I am really getting behind schedule! Getting a bit stressed now too as cause the missus was away for the night and would not be back till later on Sunday afternoon I HAD to get him out.

I threw the jacket I was holding over the armchair along with the other bits and "you know what!, so I could grapple him from under the dining table and finally get him out in the hallway and close the door. Grabbed what I thought was "everything" from the armchair but as I was pushing time now I just presumed that everything was in good order.

So cat out, and door locked I was on my way to Johns. Lovely drive over there at that time of the morning. When I was maybe 5 mins from John and pretty much back on schedule thanks to my right foot ( :) ), I was thinking I may pop in to get some petrol in the Fiesta as when I returned from Bristol with John I was gonna drive straight up to West Yorkshire from his house so wanted to have a tank of petrol at the ready. I felt around for my wallet and it was not where I though it was ! Got out of the car at the junction of Watford Road and pretty much stripped out the interior trying to find my wallet, whilst I was cursing the cat under my very cold breath !

Could I find the wallet.....Nope ! I had no option but to turn around and drive back home, approx 12 miles. Putv John on the hands free and sheepishly rang him up to confess I had fucked up and had to go back home when we should really have been setting off to meet Danny :( John, the gent he is told me no worries he would let Danny know. Still dont know what he told Danny though

Anyway as I am racing back home I am staring to really stress as I am wondering at this time if I had actually dropped the wallet outside as I was racing out of the flat after my "tussle" with the cat earlier. Thinking of all the bank cards, money, licence, picture of the cat...ermm...sorry I mean the missus and all sorts of other belongings I would lose ! So finally getting back home I looked around outside for the wallet and not there, so I am praying now that it is up in the flat on the chair or floor. Raced into flat and there it was...PHEW !!!!!

No sign of the cat...lucky for him

Jumped back in car, wallet in hand this time, and sped off back over to Watford to try to salvage our early morning plans. John as ever very laid back about it all. So off we set to meet Danny about an hour after our scheduled plans ! Felt really bad as both John and Danny were sitting waiting around for almost an hour for me in the end but both were very "british" about it all. Good lads !

Now an hour behind schedule might not sound too bad but as we got to Queen Square we noticed a few classics going in the opposite direction as we drove into the square  So we gathered that due to the freezing cold morning it was in Feb, alot of the cars that had turned up were not hanging around too long. We parked up, met Andrew but by that time the classics were one by one heading off, Still it was great to see as they drove out. I felt for Danny as he spotted a lovely Escort Mk1 that he had wanted a picture of but by the time he had popped over to it, it too had gone. If only we were there an hour earlier....Sorry Danny :)

So, that is the story of "The Cat and the Missing Wallet"

The cat by the way is called Dominic :D

All the best

Nick

 Dave, after all I said about "Dominic" I do have a big soft spot for him too. He's a cheeky chap who gets what he wants, especially with the missus !

Hi Nick,
What a story and that cat sounds like a right character!
Dominic is a funny name for a cat, have you changed the names in the story to protect the (not so) innocent? :D

All the best,
Andrew.

All the best,

I think if Nick had to change names to protect the "not so innocent" it would be his own named he needs to change!

Was still a good morning our though I must say :)
