Burton power sump plug
Hi chaps.
Just wondered if anyone has used one of these before. I usually pick them up for a couple of quid...ish but certainly not this price but they look like they are very good quality compared to the usual ones on the market !

I bought one and changed it with my oil last summer. Need to check it some time soon but can't do anything wrong can it?

Re: Burton power sump plug
Hi Nick,
Used one on the other halfs focus.
Had a good strong magnet on it and felt really solid and good quality, better than the ford original.
No results yet on the condition of the plug after being run as the oil isn't due for a change yet and might not be as the car is a poss write off after someone pulled out on her without looking.
Will update when I have more info.

Thanks mate. This is great to know. I actually ordered one from Burton about 2 hours ago. They certainly look better quality than anything I seen before. Appreciate your info.Ghia15 wrote:Used one on the other halfs focus.

Sorry to hear this mate. Hope your wife was not injured due to this idiots behaviour. Being a bus driver I see sooooo many idiots performing brainless manouvers.Ghia15 wrote:No results yet on the condition of the plug after being run as the oil isn't due for a change yet and might not be as the car is a poss write off after someone pulled out on her without looking.
If they do write off the focus mate make sure you get the Burton sump plug
Thanks again

Re: Burton power sump plug
TBH I don`t really see the point, I mean I understand the magnet in a gearbox as the oil`s in there `for life` and there`s no filtration, plus crashed gears could cause chipping of hubs etc etc. But in the engine, all the oil is constantly being filtered (AND the bearings are non-ferrous so particles from there wouldn`t be picked up by a magnet anyway.) It just seem a lot to pay... Just my thoughts.

Hi,
Yeah she is fine. I will make sure that I get it back if they write the car off and will stick it in the cossy.

Get one. Get one. Get one.
A roll pin came apart from my distributor shaft. The magnet held onto every fragment and apart from stopping them circulating around the oil or blocking the pick up pipe, allowed us to identify the pieces at CRaP.. the engine still ran fine you see. Also I had problems with Burton's spring retaining clips, two of them broke a few months apart from each other. Half stuck in the drain holes in the cylinder head under the cam, the other half made it to the sump and was held by the magnet and I saw them whilst changing oil. Also, a minor point, you can just stick the plug to the sump during an oil change and the magnet is strong enough that it is impossible to drop it into the waste oil container during servicing. Get one.

Jeepers Tom, bet you were surprised to see them turn up again on the end of your sump plug ! Shows how strong these magnets are. Thanks for the tip on sticking it to the side of the sump mate.Major_Tom wrote:Also I had problems with Burton's spring retaining clips, two of them broke a few months apart from each other.
