1948 - 2016.
He was a great guy and a true powerhouse......
He said in an interview a few years ago, that he feared not seeing his twins reach 21
RIP Rick.

It was with some poignancy that I responded to a comment of yours Andy, earlier today -

Very sad. It's true that (in this age of bland, quick, throwaway, couldn't care less as long as it sells loads uninspired music), when one of these guys leaves us, from the golden time when they made songs which meant something to us, as did the people who created them, it does really hit you.

I actually met him once, miserable git. But, still enjoyed the Quo for many years. R.I.P Rick.

Hi Paul,
Yes it was your comment that alerted me to the news, I had to read it twice
Before I checked the News Channel....
As you say 'Real Musicians' from our era of 'Proper Music', will be getting thin on the ground over the next decade or so, and we will have to get used to it unfortunately
Ironically Rick has died on what would have been Lemmy's 71st Birthday, having died 28th December 2015......A good party in Heaven or Hell tonight!
Great

I will always remember him giving me a 'Thumbs Up' at the 1984 'End Of The Road Tour'

Just adding myself to you all paying your respects to Rick.
As a metal head myself since the eighties, it's always sad to hear of the passing of 'proper' rockers and musicians.
RIP Rick.

Never was a fan, but 53 is too young for anyone......

Me neither, but you have to respect the guys talent, I can`t think of anyone else of that era who made the transition from teen eye-candy to serious musician/songwriter. Put Quo on while I made Christmas Dinner yesterday, early stuff absolutely brilliant, gutted about Rick.
2016 must have been THE worst year ever for deaths of, well, cultural Icons? RIP to them all.

It does certainly seem that way. It's been one after the other. To be honest, I think it's the same every year, in terms of numbers, but as a lot are not such massive names they go unnoticed. There has been a lot of big names this year, I think that's the difference.
It certainly makes you think.

Yes 2016 does seem to be a bad year for famous deaths, and very sad too to learn of George Michaels passing.
Don't want to speak out of turn to all you Royal lovers, but I reckon the Queens on borrowed time!!

Yep, very very sad loss.
I was never into Wham but after a few beers always found myself up dancing to their stuff at weddings and parties back in the time
RIP George....
Wake me up before you Go-Go.......

Seems to be much more mention of George Michael over Rick Parfitt in the Media
IMO, Rock stars will always be frowned upon over Pop stars, although many have the same habits.......
But they all mean something special to the fans of either genre. I'm glad to be of the age where I have seen and heard some great bands
As mentioned, it has been a bad year for big names leaving us whether you liked them or not.

So very, very true!!! As they say, it`s better to have loved and lost than never to have loved....
Genuinely glad I was born when I was, wouldn`t have missed it for the world!

I see that his solo album has been finished with the likes of Bryan May helping out and will be released in March. Let's hope it's a suitable epitaph.

I'd forgotton about that album.
If May has been involved I'm sure it will be good, although a bit of an anticlimax now

Rick Parfitt's posthumously released album is currently at number three in the album charts
Could it even get to number one I wonder.
