I'm fairly sure that it's only the first layer that has to be food grade paper - some chippies still do a first layer of that, then wrap the outside in newspaper!

Here is a Radio Times TV listings page, for this time period in 1978. Classic kids TV shows there, great stuff. And look at the price of a 14" TV -

Subbuteo - was brilliant back in the day, I think kids today would look at it and wonder what you do to play it! I had loads of it, football, rugby, cricket. Never had it as elaborate as the setup below though. Some of it is really collectable now.

I'll be honest, I've not understood a great deal of this thread but subbuteo I can definitely vouch for lol

Used to love playing this as a kid! Though it did take an age to set up

Setting it up was a great part of the fun! Used to have some of the accessories, arrange it all and spend ages getting it all just how I wanted it. Then you could have even more enjoyment by playing it.

Do you remember that extra line across the pitch that you can see on the pic, which actual pitches don't have. I think you had to be within that area to shoot. I usually ignored that rule though and shot from anywhere, even with the goalie

To be honest, my dad usually ended up having to set it up for us, and he had to iron the pitch for us as well which took him an age and it didn't really fit on our table so taking corners were a no go!

I also don't remember scoring too many goals so can only assume that the line was there to take shots from

Vastly better than todays crap, even though we have loads more channels now.
You can get a 28" T/V for that price now.....

That's a new one on me Nick, used to be a big fan of Scalexctric as a kid, like all these games, they're a hassle to set up. Much easier to pick up a controller & get lost in Grand Theft Auto

Still can't get over the price of that 14" TV , must have been a hell of a price in 1978, I guess 'Teleton' was a big name in the '70s, it was also a 'cutting edge' colour model too
