Ford TX Torch Key
Hi All,
For anyone who is interested in buying a Ford torch key suitable for the Capri, an Ebay seller has them listed for £100 or best offer. Before you choke on your tea/coffee, bear in mind that these were listed at £150 not so long ago. In addition, the seller is willing to accept best offers, and I've looked through the completed listings and it would appear that the seller would be willing to take around £50-60 for them.

The perfect finishing touch for your cherished car?

To put it into perspective, there's a seller selling a used (cut) one for £100!
I would imagine that these are obsolete and unattainable from Ford now.

Wow! Serious rocket money then! I'll make sure that if the time ever comes to part company (touch wood it won't!) then I'll make sure I add a few hundred onto the asking priceAndrew 2.8i wrote:Hi Danny,D366Y wrote:I never realised these were quite so valuable/rare! Glad to have one now

Andrew, Danny....chaps you are really making me feel inadequate with my non standard key I gotAndrew 2.8i wrote:I would imagine that these are obsolete and unattainable from Ford now.
I believe that John still has the original torch key for his Capri too which he waved at me once with great pride
Anyhow whist we are on the subject may I ask a really stupid question related to this thread....
I am presuming that a normal locksmith can cut car keys ??? I did warn you it was a stupid question Reason for asking is the casing on these torch keys could get damaged maybe whilst been cut as normal keys don't any any casing ??? Presume they must remove the case first before cutting ???
Ermmm....maybe I should leave it at that as I am having "one of my moments" and don't want to make myself out to be a proper silly billy do I...or am I too late for this
Be kind to me please......
All the best
Nick

Re: Ford TX Torch Key
Hi Nick,
Don't they just stick the pointy bit into the machine?
I had a torch key supplied with my car when I bought it, but I had a regular key cut for everyday use.
Mind you, with old Ford locks being as they are, I might as well use a knife or something!
Andrew.

I got two with my car but both need batteries, are they available easily?
Re: Ford TX Torch Key
Yep, I think 625 is the number you want, mine are Energiser EPX625G.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Varta-Alkaline ... 25+battery
Nick, I lost my original so had to buy a blank torch key (£50 then!), took it to Timpsons and they cut it no problem. As Andrew says, they just put the pointy end in the machine....

Re: Ford TX Torch Key
Nice one, thanks. Are they easy to change? Don't want to damage them.
Re: Ford TX Torch Key
It depends, some will prise apart with a fingernail, others need a blade to just open the 2 halves. They`re not `glued` or anything, just click together. Fairly easy once you`ve split the case. I`m assuming you know to press the ford oval in to release, then slide the cartridge out?

Thanks mate, As I was saying to Andrew I was having one of my "daydreaming moments" and just could not visualise how they cut keys with plastic cases
The annoying thing is I don't actually have a torch key so I was very tempted to have a blast at buying that one that Andrew kindly posted an ebay link to. I was thinking about it overnight then when I went on ebay to make an "offer" it was sold. Reckon some lucky forum member maybe got it after the link was posted here
Will keep an eye but tbh its not at the top of my "to do" list but it is a big "want"
All the best

Hi Andy,
Good spot!
I think that represents a decent buy, and I can't see them going any lower than £50.

Hi All,
Yep, as Nick say's, I'm lucky enough to still have a Working one too. I have had to get several Light units in the past though, but I use these people for these, very good reliable service...

Hi Chaps,andyd wrote:Same seller now at £50 plus postage http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-GENUINE-F ... SwzLlXh69k
I just bought the last one from the seller you mentioned Andy
I checked it out again tonight ( after drinking 3/4 bottle of white wine ! ) and as he had sold one of the two he had I would have kicked myself if I had missed out. Yep I know I should stay well clear of ebay after a drink or two...better not let the missus see this "transaction"
I just wanted to thank both of you chaps for the links to these keys Although the seller I bought my key from that you mentioned Andy is in Middlesbrough, UK whereas the chap Andrew kindly posted a link to is based in Istanbul, Turkey so don't think its the same guy so he probably still has some left himself for £55 if anyone else wants one of these.
I should get my key by Thursday Hope Mrs Fordoholic Nick does not ask any questions if she has to sign for it, although my only saving grace is it will be a small jiffy bag so can get away with "its a spare washer for my starter motor dear"
I will go to a good locksmith to get it cut. Never had a Torch Key before. Very handy now the dark nights are coming and great news spares still seem to be available for them too by what John says and the link Steve made to spare bulbs too.
Just been thinking though....I don't really drive the Capri at night ! Not that I don't want to its just I usually go out driving the Laser when the missus is at work during the day, so I don't really know why I bought a torch key...this brings me back to the 3/4 bottle of wine I just drank before buying it Its still a great little genuine Ford item to have and I do go down to the garage at night to sit in the Capri when the missus falls asleep on the sofa ( ermm I mean when I bring the bins down to bin shed ) so it will definitely come in handy for this and I have always wanted to have one so cant wait for it to arrive now
All the best
Nick
