If you post some pics of damage we may be able to form an opinion on cost/viability?

Whatever you do, do t let them take it. It will be trashed.tell them you want it repaired at a specialist - the accident was their fault not yours. Get a list of prices of similar cars that have been for sale, obviously the most expensive you can. That will help with the calculation on whether it's written off or not. Good luck.

Depends on the insurer. But usually you can tell them that you would like to use a repairer of your own choice (assuming that you do of course). It's likely that one you choose will be on their approved list. You will have to organise it yourself with the repair centre. Your insurer may send an assessor out. If you wish to repair it yourself then tell them that also.

Or you could just leave them to sort it, repair and return as you would a normal car.

Unless you were drunk at the wheel the accident is by fact their fault.
I'd start by only asking if they will repair it DON'T make a claim yet just ask what the likely hood is
if they say they will write it off DON'T claim for the car just sue them for compensation it WILL cost them alot more over all lay it on real thick and then get it all done yourself and you may have change left over.

And none of this oh well that why out insurance is high if they would just repair the cars then 90% of people wouldn't sue.

What happens now then? Do they write it off and you buy it back off them (to arrange the repair yourself)

It will get a cat D or cat C insurance write off which is simply an uneconomical repair and means nowt these days, if you do go this route tell them you want to keep the car they will knock a percentage of the car value from the offer for it, get a few private ads of similar cars to back up how much it would cost to replace the car then if they give you a stupid low offer you can present the adverts to haggle, fix your capri with the cash then spend the change on things you wanted to do on it

If it's a crease at the centre top wheel arch going upwards the shells fucked. Seen loads do this. Check the boot shut lines. You Prob find they don't match anymore. The shells banana'd. Capris have bugger all strength in the back end.

Hopefully you haven't made a claim for the car yet
And TBH I am surprised that you haven't received some sort of injury for being rear ended as TBH
the Capri hasn't got the best of back support.
I know that they CANNOT declare your Capri any sort of anything unless you claim for the damage to the car.
I'd tell them you Want the car FULLY repaired OR the salvage and money for a replacement
And tell them to be grateful you ain't putting in for personal damages ETC
If they don't play ball go for all you can.

Figured I'd share this one with you...
Today I got a call from my legal team regarding MY Car accident (back in dec 2013)
After a bit of a chat I was informed by them that the third parties insurance company is BY LAW
required to set aside a minimum of £1500 to cover ANY inconvenience and distress assuming you were 100% NOT at fault or 50/50.
Just figured I'd share this one with ya.

I had already put in a claim against the stupid tart as she admitted I was not liable for the accident and began legal proceedings ages ago My legal cover is paying for it all.

T.B.H I am not 100% sure however I have spoken to people who waited up to 3 years
to get these issues sorted and it was 6 months after before I decided that I was claiming,
at the end of the day all they had to say was sorry our fault and that would have been the end of it
for I me I refuse to be so insulted.
I personally believe that if the insurance companies weren't such Arse holes about sorting things out then I reckon personal injury claims would drop 80-90%

You know when you take a car to the garage and they span an easy job out for an extra hour or two, or when you have a builder take a couple of days on something he could have done in half a day, well I can't help but think that insurers do the same but with years.
