Dashboard switches
Hi All,
Please can somebody let me know the original factory locations of the four dashboard switches under the heater control. From left to right, mine is the foglight, rear wiper, washer and heated rear screen, although I'm not sure that's correct as I've seen various combinations in other cars.
Thanks in advance,
Andrew.

Re: Dashboard switches
Fog, wash, wipe, screen. You need to swap your wash & wipe. (But anybody who pulled you up for THAT...well, that`s beyond anorak!)

Re: Dashboard switches
Just checked my original handbook and that shows as fog, rear washer, rear wipe, rear screen heater from left to right so you have the washer and wiper wrong way round

I know Tom, I'm mortified. How could something as significant as this possibly have happened?ThatGuy wrote:Poor form Andrew, poor form. I think even mine are the right way around
Never mind, I'll lose sleep worrying about it tonight, but it'll be corrected in the morning.

Re: Dashboard switches
I swapped a couple of mine over a little while ago as I noticed the order wasn't right. Even though the cables seemed unaltered, the cable lengths stopped them from 'wanting' to be rearranged, they were more comfortable as they where. Still, they're 'right' now.

Yes, I couldn't bear to have left it.

You wonder if, as in those days they would`ve been assembled by people, that may be why they ended up in the `wrong` order - as they fitted more easily? I mean the order doesn`t really matter, it`s only 30 years later people notice....

Re: Dashboard switches
Yes, I've wondered something similar Steve. I remember looking on the internet at the time to see the 'correct' order. And there were loads all different!
Re: Dashboard switches

Re: Dashboard switches
I reckon the correct order depends on who's shift it was down in Dagenham........just like the old 'Friday afternoon Transit' thang!
I also reckon made too many black ashtrays and just thought ''fukkit.......lets rattle can 'em''

A fair point there. I imagine it's probably the same with matching date stamps on the wheels, for example. Did the assembly operatives search the warehouse to ensure every car had matching stamps, or did they slap on the five wheels that were nearest to them? As you say, nobody would have bothered then, but attention to detail is everything now!
All the best,
Andrew.

That would explain a lot. Look at the state of most of them now though!timfromull wrote:I also reckon made too many black ashtrays and just thought ''fukkit.......lets rattle can 'em''

Hilarious, my kind of humour. Sadly though I went out for a in the Capri today. The iPad came out to the car just to check and make sure my switches are in the correct order.
Very relieved to say they were, phew
How sad am I.
