Auto jumbles
Hi,
What are the best auto jumbles close to Yorkshire, that have capri parts and possibly mk3 escort bits as well? I have never attended any specific ones before, so hence the question. I have drove past the Newark one before, is that any good for capri bits?
Cheers Neil.

Re: Auto jumbles
I used to go to Newark autojumbles for many years and did get some cracking parts but I had a group of traders who knew that I specialised in Capris so they always kept stock for me at a price that I could deal with them so everyone was happy.
It's not like that anymore, there isn't the parts available now and thanks to the likes of E Bay etc everyone thinks they're an expert and everybody wants top dollar for absolutely everything so there aren't the deals to be had.
I went there twice last year, it took me longer to drive there than to look around and I'm only 45 minutes away!

Re: Auto jumbles
It sounds like one not to bother with then. Are there not any decent ones left?

There's apparently autojumble stands at the CCI national at Evesham. Might be a bit too much of a trek for you though.
Andrew.

Re: Auto jumbles
Again, might be a bit far but Tatton (Cheshire) has a huge jumble. I think NEC shows do too.
But I have to say, based on my experience of jumbles and talking to the owners I know (who have owned Capris since the 80s and before), you have to arrive before it opens to find best bits. Plus Capri bits are fewer in number at jumbles and overpriced. My preference is a combination of the following:
1. Knowing the proper reputable and trustworthy breakers (Martin Caprigear). They get their hands on so much. If you rely on Ebay, you get your pants pulled down. I could not have restored my Capri without Martin eg fiddly seat bits
2. CCI - ok, I know many hold a dim view but not me. There are just some bits they are essential for in my view
3. Knowing your local scrapyards. I found a beauty in Liverpool where I got eg cleaned up and powder coated shackle bolts for £20 where CCI wanted 3 times that for repro
4. A local car club. I have picked up lots of bits that way
5. Despite what I said before - Ebay. There are some great sellers out there. And always check completed listings and message sellers. They can do great deals outside, by which I mean before they list their next item rather than private sale on an already listed item. As an example, I was looking for a new VIN plate and NOS light blue Ford badge. I was looking for them since I bought the car. They fetch up to £100 each on auction. I recently acquired both through speculative approaches at half the price
6. Local craftsmen - I had new power steering pipes made by a local hydraulic firm. It was half the price of CCI and I have not seen NOS of these for sale. And forget second hand
I love the hunt for bits and having various outlets really simplifies it.
Good luck with your search.
Mike

Re: Auto jumbles
A couple of people I know in Devon and Cornwall may have Mk3 Escort bits, would have to be Courier or Posted though.
I can put a link up if you want.

Re: Auto jumbles
I have some MK3 Escort bits left over from a dealership clearance that I did many years ago.
Re: Auto jumbles
It`s also worth checking out Ebay.de as there`s not so much interest in Capris there so prices can be much lower.MS Injection wrote:5. Despite what I said before - Ebay. There are some great sellers out there. And always check completed listings and message sellers.

Re: Auto jumbles
Going to have a run out in the capri to Newark, it will be a day out and charge the battery if nothing else.
Martin,
I'm looking for back lights, particularly bulb strips. Cv boots but could really get them from halfrauds. The biggys are, proper rs turbo aerial, desperate for a complete wiring loom and the rs turbo radiator for now.
Give me a bell or text if you have anything as I would sooner buy off you than at Newark in a bit mate. 07736954972
Cheers neil

Well played fella! That's the way to do it. Was the VIN plate from the same seller that Fordoholic Nick got his?
Sorry for the hijack Eloise!
Andrew.

If it's not too far for you, then a brilliant day or two out would be at the Llandudno transport fair. The autojumble there, which coincides with the car show is massive, and excellent. It also coincides with the Victorian weekend so lots going on in the town.eloise wrote:Hi,

Yes Steve, it's the 2nd, 3rd and 4th May. Been the last couple of years, loved it.
Re: Auto jumbles
Have you tried these people http://www.rsturbos.co.uk/?
I've bought a couple of things from them and found them very reasonable. However they are local to me and I was paying with cash
All the best
Neil

Hi, I will try them when I get stuck. I'm just labelling and restoring the loom at the minute so could be a while ha ha
Cheers Neil.
