It's easier than that. Get a long exposure camera, set fire to nylon rope and run around the car quickly draging the rope. Live flame gives sharp fire flicker edges. The rope being dragged gives the fire that air whipped motion whilst illuminating more of the car being shit loads less dangerous. In the dark the person dragging the rope fast enough is never seen by the camera.
